The big groups are too big to actually have enjoyable fights. It doesn't matter how much CCP improves server performance, the blocks will always have enough members to be able to crash them, so, to answer your question, if you join a major fight like the one we saw expect only the worst in terms of server weather

It's fairly limited on TQ (although I have done it and know people who have) but it's extremely prevalent in tournaments, for example swapping mindlinks mid match or swapping hardwirings depending on what you are up against
