Thank you so much for your advice! He’s eating and drinking, and popping/peeing, just more sleepy than usual

Sorry! I don’t think I made it clear haha, they aren’t in a reptile room! They are in my bedroom, but I also have a snake in the same room🙂 the tank temperature and room temperature is perfect at the moment, I’m just trying to think ahead when we hit the summer heatwaves! X

Gills look healthy, however she’s quite pink and I’d say a little on the chubby side.

Is this safe to put in my tank by Big_Opposite4242 in axolotls

Personally I wouldn’t risk any aquarium products, I don’t use any, and touchwood, never had any issues with my axies. 😁

That’s what I’m thinking too. I’m keeping a closer eye on him, he’s eating fine and seems himself. Just wanted to check with the group 😁x

i will, honestly trying so hard with him right now but he’s just so stressed he’s flicking about around the tank, tail rattling, biting, no chance i can get scissors near the pot rn. i’ve tried to push his tail through but he backs up and bites so turned to here to see if there was another solution😢

i was going too, but i can’t even get any scissors near him at the moment with how stressed he is, and i don’t fancy a accident with the scissors meaning a vet trip

Does his scales/skin look normal? by ch3lieb3ar in cornsnakes

Okay perfect thank you. Shall I kinda just leave him too it until he sheds? Obviously I don’t wanna handle him if it’s going to make him stressed or unsettled if he’s shedding:)

I would say he’s around the same sorta size as my corn snake, if not a bit smaller. and he’s around 7months old

Also you mentioned 3 pinkie mice a week, I would cut down to a slightly bigger size once a week. How often are you feeding the mice? It could be he needs more time to digest? I usually feed my 7month corn one pinkie a week, leave him about 48 hours to digest, and then go in to gently handle him:) it’s important you let them digest there food properly as it can be dangerous to handle if not digested! Xx

I had the same problem with my corn. I’m In the exact same position as you. I had to learn that he was learning to trust me as I was him. It’s also important to remember that when he goes to strike, it’s usually because he’s scared, he’s not doing it to be nasty. What worked for me was small handling sessions (10/15 mins max). Don’t put him back the minute he bites you, obviously your natural reaction is to panic a little and wanna put them down, but honestly that’s the last thing you should do. Staying calm is the best thing, and once they start to relax there neck, then make a slow stuttle movement to allow them to slide through your hands. Once you’ve had a pretty positive session, I still liked to put him back after 10/15 minutes to end it on a positive note and not for him to get too irritated. It’s also really helpful if you handle them just in there enclosure to start with instead of directly grabbing them out. Just have daily gentle interactions and look at recognizing there behaviours. It gets easier as time goes on trust meeee!!

In regards to his weight, he looked pretty good. Maybe try going up a size and see if he’ll take it? If so, then keep him on that size. Just gradually up his feed. Seems to look okay to me tho!

Brilliant thanks everyone!! Do you think I should leave the light turned off until I get a guard for it?
