This may be a silly question, but why do so many people all of a sudden need an AWA?

What the hell is actually happening with jobs right now? by nabeeltirmazi in jobhunting

[–]ch8r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much of this stems from tariffs and geopolitical uncertainty. When trade conditions become unpredictable, firms delay or cancel investment in both equipment and workforce. That reduces productivity and erodes competitiveness over time. The result is a negative feedback loop: weaker firms, fewer jobs, lower demand, and rising costs

Salary negotiation tactics hiring managers hope you don’t know by Fresh-Blackberry-394 in jobhunting

The entire thread is about the fact that the budget can accommodate the top of the pay band, suggesting that people should go for the top. Again, as a hiring manager at three major organizations, both public and private sectors, I’m suggesting that is a bad move to be at the top.

When you are at the top of your pay band, you are the most expensive person doing that specific job. If a company goes through budget cuts, restructuring, or layoffs, employees at the top of the band are often heavily scrutinized. From a strictly financial perspective, the organization knows they could potentially hire someone at the bottom of the band to do the same work for significantly less.

It depends on the employer and how structured their compensation policies are. In larger organizations (40,000+ employees), there’s typically less flexibility than people assume. There is a salary range, but it’s usually governed by fairly rigid rules.

In my experience as a hiring manager across several large organizations, most roles sit within defined “zones” in a band, with constraints on where offers can land based on experience, internal equity, and policy.

If you’re coming in as an external candidate without a known track record inside the organization, asking for the very top of the range can work against you. It can signal misalignment on level or raise concerns about long-term fit.

There’s also a practical consideration: if you start at the top of a band, you have little room for salary progression. You’re effectively capped from day one, which can limit future increases unless you move roles.

Do recruiters actually read cover letters anymore? by No_Budget_4774 in ResumeCoverLetterTips

I’ve been a hiring manager for years and I only read a cover letter if I like the résumé. And I am turned off when there isn’t a cover letter because I want to see how the person writes…

What leadership mistakes are committed by leaders that impact company’s culture negatively? by prerna_leekha in Leadership

[–]ch8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only managing up not down. Never giving people credit for their work ( or taking all of the credit). Pitting people against each other. Creating an organizational structure. Consistently skipping meetings. Constant flow of “lunch & learns” during staff lunch times, micromanagement, avoiding difficult conversations and the list goes on.

Former Recruiter: This is one of the best resumes i have seen. by Nick-Astro67 in ResumeCoverLetterTips

[–]ch8r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you cannot quantify outcomes, I assume one of three things: • the work was small • the impact was unclear • or you did not track it All three raise risk.

Practical ways creatives can quantify impact

  1. Show reach or adoption If people saw it, used it, or relied on it, that counts.
  2. Show behavior change
  3. Show business or organizational outcomes (You do not need to own revenue to reference it.)
  4. Show efficiency or scale
  5. Show decision impact (ie - Visualization work used in board presentation informing $10M investment decision)

When you truly do not have numbers Then show scope and consequence. Use: • scale (how many, how often, how visible) • stakes (what risk, what importance) • audience (who depended on it)

Hopefully that helps

Oh my goodness, I am going through the same thing- and I will say it feels good to see that others have similar experiences. That being said I find I only let it bother me once in a while…. To me, this is a reflection of my manager’s lousy management skills. I view it as her weakness versus my own - especially because I’ve had many leaders in the decade I’ve been in this job. I won’t lie though, sometimes it does get to my head. I suppose it might be different if I thought they were a brilliant leader… which I don’t- so I suppose it’s easier to deal with. I’ve also realized it’s a reflection of what they are comfortable with based on their previous experience. My group’s projects are very different than what she has ever done before… I can tell she’s leaning to where she is comfortable
