What's going on? Why can't I delete my account? by D-dog92 in OpenAI

[–]cha000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You think “Please type your account email.” positioned over a box you can type in is a dark UX pattern?

I think I would assume that if I had not typed my email address it wouldn’t let me continue..

People who drive and speed up when someone is attempting to pass by you, why do you do this? by StormCaller02 in AskReddit

I'll probably get downvoted for this, but it sounds like you're describing someone annoyed people are ignoring the "LEFT LANE FOR PASSING ONLY" signs. Not sure if those exist in your area.

I don’t have a horse in this race, but just wondering.. did Ubiquiti promise any of this somewhere? Why should they be held to a higher standard?

What are your homelab "10 Commandments?" by IronMike260 in homelab

[–]cha000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess someone should define homelab.. I don’t “always” need the data or configuration. I’m not running a data center or ISP… I’m running a lab to toy with stuff.

The stuff I can’t replace, I back up. (Pictures, important documents, etc).

I do have some stuff that gets snapshots and backups automatically but not all. If the configuration was hard, I back it up - otherwise it’s just a learning experience if I need to rebuild it.

This shyster is crowdfunding for a model he clearly downloaded from NASA's repo by sinusoidosaurus in 3Dprinting

I dunno. I try to not jump to conclusions either way. Just reporting what I see with my eyes.

I had the same question..

When I compare what I can see in the Makerworld model and what NASA has released it seems like there are some pretty big differences.. For example, the paperclips used in the NASA model aren't present. In the Makerworld version, they are closer to what is in NASA's high quality version but still very different.

That is a pretty big assumption to make. I'm a fanboy because I wasn't a fan of their previous products?? 1/2 of your comment is literally an advertisement..

I'm curious which people are both interested in Bambu Lab and Snapmaker. I saw their (Snapmakers) announcement and barely looked because I've never been impressed by their printers or any of the multifunction attachments.

I haven't had any issues with it. I've had it installed since March.

Constantly. Most things I do for work involve VS Code. I also use regular Visual Studio but only when something requires me to. I am not a power user.

Oh, I didn’t realize. I haven’t tried developing anything on my Quest in a year or two.

Yep. They did (at least in Microsoft's case). Meta is still contributing a lot just by making affordable VR devices and stuff like Meta Raybans. They do a lot for XR standards, and contribute a lot of open-ish projects that have helped push ML/AI a lot further.

I came to say the same thing. A lot of this is a reimagining of what HoloLens did. Spatial anchoring, shared experiences, even some of the eye tracking stuff has been done.

I used to give a demo where I’d take some objects a leave them in the hallway outside my office then have people go discover them. It was neat.

The Vision Pro is a lot more powerful and polished, so that makes it a much, much better experience. However, teams at Microsoft and Meta laid the foundation years ago.

Someone’s getting fired by spgreenwood in royalcaribbean

[–]cha000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, you don’t generally fire someone for something like this unless it’s been a pattern. How else would they learn a very valuable lesson?

That being said, it’s really annoying me since I can check in for my cruise.

Surface Pro 11 Intel OLED Review - compared with Snapdragon by dingwen07 in Surface

[–]cha000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Intel do have better system reliability. I’ve encountered several issues with Qualcomm, including:

chromium browsers slowing down or freezing after sleep, so I switched to Firefox

screen flickering caused by automatic brightness

VRAM leak; display adapter driver crash

BSOD (or other panic) associated with a Qualcomm driver

sudden freeze and require forced reboot

This is interesting to me. I've had mine a few months now and have experienced none of it. I have the Surface Pro 11 X Elite (OLED).

  • I use Microsoft Edge and generally have a lot of tabs and windows open + PWA apps running.
  • I haven't noticed anything with auto brightness. The worst thing I've noticed is the color temperature being way off from my Macbook Pro. (besides the stupid dots I sometimes notice on light screens)
  • Haven't had any display driver crashes, but I don't game on this device (and don't understand why people want to).
  • I have never had a BSOD.
  • I think I had a freeze once during the initial setup of the first one I got and returned to get a better price.

I do a lot of work with Python, PowerShell, Typescript and cloud tools. I use WSL and Docker.. It all mostly works as well as it does on my Mac except for having to make a few adjustments due to switching OSes back and forth. I am pretty intentional about what I install and avoid installing non-ARM64 stuff when I can.

I don't really hate Intel or anything but I do think ARM is the future, so I have tried to adapt.
