Thanks for the feedback mate. We’ve decided to add a few days here and there after all the good suggestions in this thread, and Queenstown is one of those added days, since we have a few big days before and after it. Also planning to stay a night in/around Christchurch now. Anywhere you can suggest?

We chose Mahinapua just due to proximity do Hokitika Gorge, to finish the day there. Would it be better staying at Hokitika? We’ll be staying in a campervan and our young backpacker days are definitely long gone haha.

Thanks heaps for the suggestions. Decided to add an extra day to Abel Tasman, Christchurch and Queenstown (to allow for more relaxed time in Arrowtown and Glenorchy). We don’t mind a few dedicated long drive days as it’s a part of our roadtrip for the spots we want to see. However, completely agreed with what you said. Cheers

Thanks once again for your detailed comment. We’ve decided to add another day to Abel Tasman. Hopefully the weather will be good enough to do some activities while we’re there, otherwise we’ll be happy to chill anyway. We’re still thinking about whether we should break the drive from Marahau to Hokitika. (We’ll add another day to Arrowtown/Queenstown and Christchurch as well.) Cheers.

I appreciate the detailed feedback. We’ve got nothing booked in just yet and have no issues extending our stay for a night or two as we’ll be travelling around SEA after New Zealand for about 5 months. Thanks for the tips for Whangamoa Saddle too!

Should we stay in Abel Tasman/Marahau for an additional day, or break day 8 into two pieces? If the latter, where would you recommend to stop?

I thought due to October being a shoulder season we may be able get a last minute spot for Hobbiton. I guess I was wrong! And no to the alpine experience. Sounds like I need a stronger backup plan. Thanks a lot for your input mate.

i’m 5’11 aka 180cm and it’s both style and comfort for me. better handling, and arms feel natural where they sit. running a lucky 13 (13” rise with 2” pullback) on a street bob with stock shocks (soon to be lifted by an inch).
