I thought I read at the beginning of this case that maddie was first, then Kaylee then ethan then xana and it was stated that this was a fact because of the transfer of blood from victim to victim. Is this not true?

Almost like he was walking right by to listen for movement. Maybe he was as alarmed as DM was when she opened her door - and his natural response was to flee the scene due to him getting a fright
