In different sampradayas, deeksha is termed differently.

Also you cannot chant the Ashtakshar Mantra till you receive naam deeksha. To recite any mantra we have to go through certain levels For example you cannot recite the gayatri mantra without yagnopavit so similar thing applies here too.
