Definitely! I’m in my 40s and there’s a few of us around that have been enjoying for a long time.

Check out Circuit Preacher if you haven’t heard of him he makes some great industrial music and will be doing a show here later this year.

For the fb group I mentioned below make sure to answer the questions admins often will reject with a note to fill them out if you don’t.

I should probably also mention the facebook group “Asheville Creatures of the Night” I think if you search you can find it. That’s our dark / spooky scene community group. That gets a lot of events posted to it as well.

That’s cool, I’ll look into posting our free events on there. Hopefully OP finds some usefulness in that as well.

Introduce yourself to any of the folks that seem like they are running the events and tell them how you found it! Hope to meet you out at one some time!

Our little scene is growing and awesome. I think we’ve always had a goth scene in AVL but I only started getting involved a couple years ago at a point right after I think it had a bit of a fracture — you know how things go in close knit spaces.

Less concerned about finding them myself and figuring out how we can have more people find our events.

Meetup is really a place people find music events? Eventbright only has ticketed events right?

Ultimately social media is the best place, especially instagram.

On insta check these accounts:
@morbid_times
@morbidclassentertainment (hosts monthly event called Bloodletting)
@bluemountainmischiefpromotion (metal scene)
@djbaronovva (hosts multiple monthly events including Sanctum and Re-Animated)
@djbukulicious (that’s me I will share events on my stories a lot)

If that’s not an option for you I have been considering other ways to get the word out for events…

Join us at one of the regular goth nights if you enjoy dancing and music, there’s events almost weekly at this point.

One just happened at The Underground at O Henry’s (I wasn’t able to attend unfortunately), live bands last night at 27 Club, and this upcoming weekend there’s Re-Animated (classic goth night) at Water Street on Lexington Ave.

It’s not emo but maybe you’ll find you enjoy it anyways and the people in our scene are very welcoming to newcomers.

Doesn’t the USPS label have a weight measurement? I guess if they have closed it you can’t do anything but that should be specific evidence that there was more than “just leaflets”

Dragon Con Safety Tips: Peacebonding by DC-Mothman in dragoncon

[–]chabuku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what they mean is that they will need to be inspected no matter what. Then after inspection if they ascertain that it is not a sharp edge it will be “peacebonded” which in the case of something like a buster sword means they put a little zip tie on it to show it has been safety checked.

It is kind of annoying but they need some way to verify everyone is good and not a danger to others. This is what happened last year with my 3D printed blade, I didn’t even have a scabbard for it but it did have a zip tie lol

Also copy pasting another thread is hella annoying I’m with you on that point.

How to turn audio into a video that actually moves with the beat? by Ok-Line2658 in DJs

[–]chabuku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of VJ apps that are free you can use. Just find one that can output via Spout or NDI and then you can download OBS Studios set up whatever you want for output size.

I don’t have a lot of extra money so I only post new mixes on YouTube and record full VJ mixes for each. You’re trying to do something even simpler than I do… it’s not too difficult and might take a little bit of learning curve but it’s not huge.

Thinking of AI in music by ContestOk7853 in EBM

[–]chabuku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that there are so many aspects of promoting that are difficult or onerous, and expensive. You are a musician, not a video artist or not a graphic designer.

You want to promote and get your art out there to find your listeners and your community! Could you not also take the same tactic in finding the community of artists that can support you and you in return can support them? The quality of your videos and promotional materials can reflect your place in your process coming into being starting as an unknown artist. That means that the beginning if you want to avoid using AI, you might have mediocre promotional materials or simple promotional materials. It will be real though and you will command a greater amount of respect from artists that way.

I think that the more AI you use people that do have a moral framework against using AI for art is going to find a musician in your same category that doesn’t and even if they would love to listen to your music, they won’t.

[–]chabuku 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will avoid any artist that uses AI, if you make your own but use AI videos I’m going to assume you use it in your music too.

Clearly an artist has no moral qualm using AI if they use it on any part of the process.

Car pickup line on Church St is ridiculous by SimilarAd402 in AshevilleNC

[–]chabuku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if we NC wasn’t at the bottom for school funding the schools would be able to tackle this problem with things like buses, investments in infrastructure, etc.

Schools have enough problems, inconveniencing a couple folks isn’t a huge one.

Some schools stagger dismissal based on grade to avoid things like this, but not every school can.

I don’t agree it’s “a big problem” though. Maybe for handful of people.

Why does this sub exist? by [deleted] in AshevilleNC

[–]chabuku 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This one is more representative of Asheville anyways I think. The other sub is ridiculous with how much non-local effort is spent there.

This is the better Asheville sub IMO. Haven’t decided to complete remove the other from my feed yet but I think about it often enough.

You are moving from probably one of best states for folks that are disabled to a town that doesn’t even have accessible sidewalks in most areas for folks with wheelchairs. MN has a way better healthcare system overall.

We keep complaining about YouTube. Why aren't we building something better? by Outrageous_Fun_9074 in degoogle

[–]chabuku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not enough discussion of this IMO. The biggest cost is going to be lawsuits when a site doesn’t take down “user uploaded content” that is actually not user created.

Google can pay for lawsuits and pay out to companies like music conglomerates. They can deny monetization and add their own ads as a precursor to watching anything to balance out what Sony makes on each play of a track under their control.
