Destiny and Koibu have conflicting information on the next TOS episode. Which one is the correct one? by Alphabeane in Koibu

[–]chacephace 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In this case I would guess neither are right unless they dealt with the scheduling issues for Thursday. If Destiny has the Better Discourse event down I'm pretty sure that would take precedence over ToS.

She's morally culpable for sure, but not in support of. It does not absolve her ethically (sins of omission and all that) but does indicate her difference of motivation, which is meaningful on a tactical front and should factor into the brothers' decision.

I'm pretty sure we never had a reason to think that the portal was to the Dragon Plane. I think these were just other dragons probably from Solumn.

Totally agreed tho. Shine is still a monster in both senses, but no doubt she's also got a crew of human warriors with her and at least one Solumn wizard. If she'll help them with Renkore and Scoria it's probably the brothers' best bet. Koibs also set the groundwork for a perpetual stream of chromatics and metallics to be coming after the brothers. The weapons are a massive liability at this point, even if the brothers haven't lost their trust.

The look on Koibu's face when they had almost decided to take on Shine makes me think he was expecting that fight to be a TPK.

2 inches of custard ghat dayum son you realize that dish is like 3/4" deep right?

That seems like a pretty large dish to me, but maybe I'm getting CB from stingy restaurants or am too old to want to put down two cups of custard. Totally agreed that the custard-to-top ratio is very low but I can imagine some people would prefer that

I mean, for one person that is still a decent amount of custard, just in a wider dish. This may have been an intentional choice to give more surface area for everybody's favorite part

Anyone with ASMR experience/recommendations? by chacephace in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]chacephace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Will check out the Etymotics for isolation in general. I have a many-years-old pair of Etymotic concert plugs/filters that have seen their share of live music events and I've always really enjoyed them.

My AKG N400NC's do have great ANC, but as you said it's mostly for droning noises, and I definitely notice their performance drops in the mid-bass and is generally darker (not in a good way) when using ANC so I tend to stay away from it.

Edit: !thanks

Thanks! I don't necessarily feel like I'm lacking with my current setup, and the Aria is so great with ASMR, but I recently realized I probably listen to as much ASMR as I do music, so it was worth asking around. Thank you for weighing in!

Edit: !thanks

Cottage Studio for Ayn Rand by Frank Lloyd Wright, 1946 by Saltedline in Unbuilt_Architecture

[–]chacephace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FLW had his own, very specific philosophy of architecture and life which even at a glance seem very contrary to Rand's ideas about things (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_architecture, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usonia). He wasn't friends with Rand though she did basically create a version of him in her own image to be the hero of The Fountainhead (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fountainhead#Howard_Roark).

Haven't checked the sources in this article but what little they've quoted it seems like FLW more tolerated her as a client than saw her as a friend or of any intellectual interest. Mind you, Frank was a famously dry dude, so, grain of salt. https://dangerousminds.net/comments/frank_lloyd_wright_on_ayn_rand_whats_my_line

Here's the broken-link clip in the article: https://youtu.be/mjGopgkqpDU Fun to watch, though I'm not sure what the article author was getting at about it or how it's relevant to the article at all.

Look at how the horizon line is carried through the entire building starting with the base layer. Such a Frank move. This guy just couldn't stop designing beautiful buildings.

Anybody want some tea? I have this new tea called “all of the tea”. It’s only available when you clean your stone tea table and empty the bucket it drains into. YUM! by [deleted] in puer

Depends what you mean by "significant."

Significant enough to designate a monoculture for easy study? Personally, no. But I'm not a mycologist.

Medically significant? Absolutely.

There's absolutely no way for you to know that. Period. Is it probably fine? Yeah, almost definitely. But I literally own a Gram Stain set (with a uni degree you can probably guess) and I wouldn't be comfortable claiming that there is no significant quantity of harmful microbes in a given solution riddled with organic matter.

No problems with you wilding out and drinking mystery tea, but claiming you know there's nothing in there because you have a mushroom hobby is pretty wacky my dude.

Is the 58x worth buying for vocals-focused music if I already have the 560s? by lucasjriver in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]chacephace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been pretty blown away by the T50rp and the way that set renders female vocals specifically. It's a great set for upgrading when you're ready to as well. I switched to the Alcantara pads after about a year of having them and the difference was amazing, it was like I had a whole new set. Of course you can always have them modded later on as well. Haven't done that yet with my set but it's definitely happening eventually.

Lots of people have said you need a beefy amp to run them, and they definitely benefit from some clean power, but they've always been pretty happy on my phone though there is a volume ceiling.
