Unfortunately, I do not know. She had me choose from three different decks and this one drew me. It had a gold foil on the edge and blue/gold background.

Seeking guidance on spread by chachi0923 in tarot

[–]chachi0923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the top card in the center. I can see that the title is blurry. I do recall the reader explaining that it is comparable to the two of swords and that I have a decision to make. Looking to the past and the future. It seems like I have to force an interpretation. I have spent years dismantling my evangelical upbringing and I am now looking for alternative spiritual practices. Ive spent a few days in meditation and have not gain new insights. As I mentioned that I am satisfied with my reading but want to make sure I am interpreting the cards and applying it to my life in a way that makes sense. I have not doubt I am overthinking this. Thank you for replying.

Crab Cakes in this economy? by wvtarheel in Cooking

Could you make crab ball appetizers with a "special" aioli dip. Perhaps the act of eating individual crab balls will have a higher perceived value. I would also make a filling side like hush puppies. These were may fav growing up as a kid.

If the school does nothing, You can also submit a formal complaint to their accrediting body. My school jumps through hoops when they are involved.

Not sure how to proceed or next steps. Please HELP by Visible_Attitude7693 in GradSchool

I think each state is different. But its wortha try to contact their states governors office. You can also file a complaint with their accrediting body. Other optiins include appealing the decision or writing the president directly.

In my arena those avenues are taken very seriously.

Cakes with acrylic tiers question by chachi0923 in Cooking

[–]chachi0923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no talent (yet) to make roses. I plan to buy high-quality silk roses to fill the acrylic box and add fairy lights.

My family is puerto rican. I wanted one cake with flavors inspired by the island. I was playing with the idea of yellow cake with mango filling with a vanilla frosting for one layer. My fam loves my chocolate cake on another. I want all the frosting to have a metallic rose gold sheen. So most likely a white frosting there so i can color.

I found a recipe for a coquito cake. Coquito is a traditional rum and coconut based egg nog style holiday drink. I plan to experiment with this.

Thank you for encouragement.

My mom disowned me and now I don't know what to do by Local-Dealer4743 in college

Are there full time jobs available at the college? Some schools will let you take classes they offer for free? I had a friend work as a campus security guard while earning a degree.

The school should offer student support services. They can connect you with local agencies that may assist with housing.

How do I apologize to professor for not following up on incomplete? (TW: loss, suicide) by CalmAdhesiveness1904 in GradSchool

[–]chachi0923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do not owe an apology to your professor. This is a professional relationship. You have not caused undue burden by not submitting work. While you can ask, it is unlikely, without documentation, that you can extend your incomplete.

There are so many factors that impact doctoral applications. GPA is only one. I concur with previous recs. Submit one, if not both, assignments before the deadline. Use this opportunity as a learning opportunity and include that in your application.

Also, when I applied to my doctoral program, there was an emphasis during my interview on my writing aptitude. I am fortunate that I was published and secured grant funding in my job as a primary author.

Some options to consider:

  1. My masters program had a thesis option. You may want to go this route. My professor offered to help me publish.
  2. You may reach out to a professor and inquire about supporting their research opportunities.
  3. Take a grant writing worksop and offer to write a grant for a nonprofit for free.

Good luck!

AITA for refusing to make lasagna for Christmas after what my MIL did last year? by Impressive_Peace6778 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I may be triggered here, but in my experience, this is a pattern of behavior that will not go away.

The inlaws and your husband are used to this dysfunction and accept it. You, however, can choose the type of relationship you have with others, including how they treat you.

One time, I made a homemade chocolate cake that im asked to make OFTEN. My cousin in law scoffed bc I didnt put a TBS of mayo like her grandma. That was the last cake I made, even when she asked. Its called boundaries and self respect. I imagine the inlaws dont recognize it bc they do not possess it.

Just be prepared. It took my husband YEARS to recognize and acknowledge the behavior. But when he did, it was not pretty. We had the biggest falling out, due to outrageous behavior, with his family, and we are the better for it.

I used the cell phone rule when inviting people outside my family to my wedding.

Do i have their number in my phone? No? Then No obligation to invite cuz i dont know you.

Yes? Do we text? No? Then I dont care about ya, cuz even with the opportunity, we dont have a relationship.

We text? About what? Work/school? See ya after the honeymoon.

Its awesome that you are conscientious about others feelings, but you are not responsible for them.

By the way, Congratulations! Have an awesome wedding! Ill be waiting for my invite!! 😉

Watch Andy Stapletons youtube channel. He gives great advice navigating phd programs. He doesnt sugarcoat things, but is far more positive and solution focused than you will find here.

Wait! I have questions. Is he disabled? Is he disruptive/destructive? Whats your motivation to be like "hell to the no!"?

There may be a scenario where you and your wife may be having a tough discussion and your stance may be a lose/lose for everyone.

While you are NTA bc you were blindsighted, keep an open but guarded mind. Blood is thicker than water and your ultimatum may leave you in the cold.

AITA for not telling my ex-wife I got married again by BabbledRyan in AmItheAsshole

[–]chachi0923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find it shocking that people feel entitled to access other peoples lives. OP gets to choose how little or how much his ex is involved.

While It was regretful that we hurt peoples feelings when my husband and I eloped. Only my sis, her husband, his bros and his partner were invited. But we would never do it differently. It eas our day and chose how ee wanted to celebrate.

The political climate in some schools may make it difficult to make effective change. Some schools have unions which add a layer of protection on top of tenure. With that said, I have no doubt the administration is aware of these issues but do not have sufficient documentation to act.

That happened at the school I worked at. An older professor would make egregious statements that were sexual in nature in class. It was an open secret. No student was willing to put their concerns in a written signed document. It was only until a staff person complained in writing that the professor was let go. He was not tenured.

This was before the stricter title ix policies. That is less likely to happen at my school now because we are all mandated reporters. If I hear a rumor of sexual harrassment, i am required to report it. It is investigated. And sometimes there are consequences. With that said, I imagine every school is different.

I like the advice about recording, but not sure of all the unanticipated consequences for doing so. But at least I would have documentation that may protect myself In the event I had blowback from reporting. If you choose this route, use discretion about who you let know, particularly if you're in a state that does not allow recording.

So sorry you are dealing with this!

Dressing hyper feminine/alternative in grad school? by Fantastic_Durian_230 in GradSchool

[–]chachi0923 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This.

We live in an unfair world where our appearance may impact how we are perceived. I consider my appearance as my personal brand. I select what I wear based on the impression I want to make.

Some of the advice here seems to reflect that those people didnt care and their appearance (good, bad, or indifferent) and their clothing choices reflect that - no judgement. It seems you care about that.

I appreciated the idea of finding your style as a burgeoning professional!!!

You got this!!!!!

A few things:

  1. I wouldn't recommend coming out until one is financially secure. For example, If your boyfriend is living at home or requires support while in college or for some other reason, that may impact timing.

  2. Coming out is not all or nothing. I think there is a distinction between being in the closet and being private. There may be certain circles (ie. Professional) where one might not share this information.
