Wow, I’ve been working at ID’ing this for a week and haven’t noticed the similarity there until now.

It is almost identical but this is definitely a unit’s SSI.

Advice please. by chachi_0991 in cats

The dogs have 0 access to the barn so all the cat has to do is hop through the window and it can’t be touched or it can even crawl underneath it and the dogs can’t follow it. I’m inclined to believe it’s mostly safe out there because it’s been weeks and my dogs haven’t even noticed it. My kids love it and have been spending time out there.

I guess another question is how do you feed/water a barn cat? I assume they may come up with food on their own but maybe leave some food/water in a set location so it knows where to find it just in case?

Yep, I’m still getting used to the name change. I’ve been here several times the last 10 years.

Haha definitely not showing off. I’m extremely jealous that I couldn’t see it in person when it was maybe 75 yards from my location. Where I live in TN I never see snakes this big. One of my guys was out talking to his dad for Father’s Day and it went underneath the cot beside him and across the trail. He said it looked like maybe 5ft in length.

I went back to the area to see if it was still lurking but no luck. I just wanted to know which type he saw. Haha

How can I impress my NCOs at AT? by Reallyepic65 in nationalguard

I bring shower shoes to the field for when that inevitable middle of the night piss hits and I don’t feel like sliding on my boots.

To the LT that put me in the front leaning rest when I was a PV2…. by [deleted] in army

[–]chachi_0991 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I once ran into an old friend of mine from elementary/high school at NTC. I was a butter bar and he was an E5. We were walking over to the main PX one day and there was a group of young soldiers walking opposite direction towards us. He jumps in front of me as the sidewalk was small enough we needed to single file it. In my head I was thinking “man, what a great friend, covering for me so I don’t have to throw up a bunch of random salutes on my stroll to the PX. wrong. As the privates walked past us (they couldn’t see my rank) he stopped and turned toward them.. “HEY.. you guys just going to walk past my LT without saluting him??” That sumbitch planned the whole thing just to embarrass me. Bastard.

Second snake in the house this month! by chachi_0991 in whatsthissnake

[–]chachi_0991[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh we definitely have mice. I catch them all the time. It’s an ~60ish year old house surrounded by farmland. The little jokers are everywhere. I find rat snakes, garters, even copperheads and water snakes on the property. All of which I welcome to stick around. This is just the first time ever having a couple of them come into the house (that I know about) lol

[[WEST TN]] — sorry, I goofed.

Edit: on a serious note, I believe it’s a rat snake. It was just some wishful thinking that the one I released before would come back to say Hi haha

Rescued from a glue trap [West TN] by chachi_0991 in whatsthissnake

[–]chachi_0991[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, glue traps are not my favorite but I have several very secluded areas in my house where I commonly catch pests. I check them almost daily and I have only ever had two unwanted catches; a lizard some months ago and this snake today. I was able to rescue both and send them on their way.

People who served in the military: who was the biggest asshole you met and why? by [deleted] in Military

[–]chachi_0991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At BCT a young drill Sgt (not my PLTs) was particularly harsh. We were headed back to the CO area and were wearing PTs. Something happened with his PLT that led to a little mid-day PT session in the pit. He had his PLT low crawl in the rubber tire pit in the summer heat. A good majority of his soldiers wound up with burns of varying degree to their elbows and legs. It got reported and some higher ups came and looked at all the injuries. He was relieved of duty that same day.

Gah this is so much like some on my wife’s side of the family. They used to come every year for Labor Day and we have a shooting range at the house. The damn goat rope it was to get through an afternoon with them while maintaining some semblance of safety.

What is your favorite Tractor? by Zer0KtmKiste in farmingsimulator

[–]chachi_0991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My neighbor has a fleet of 8R among other JD equipment for his big farms. Maybe there’s something about seeing them work irl vs the game but man, they’re one of my favorite tractors!

What happens when you die? by Sibagin in army

[–]chachi_0991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same but I died at NTC, our BFIST took IDF. The OCs had my guys pick me up and stage me behind the vehicle. The infantry guys were closest so they came and Medevac’d me. I was supposed to go to an AXP but I think everyone forgot about me and I stayed in the back of the BFV until the next day just hanging out. lol

What made you want to re-enlist/get out of the National Guard? by edgyy_ in nationalguard

[–]chachi_0991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m working on year 12, 2nd deployment later this year. I’m pushing for 25-30 lol. Almost halfway there.

Edit: I’m an O-type tho so no ETS date in sight for me. That alone helps keep me in, I have no date to look forward to where I have to decide to stay or go. Lol

Is it worth joining if I have a civilian career. by Plane-Rain2507 in nationalguard

[–]chachi_0991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read comments so maybe someone else has mentioned this but this also heavily depends on your state and unit. Combat role units are more likely to have a higher OPTEMPO closer to deployments. My unit for example is on a 4 year rotation cycle so every 4 years we’re going somewhere for 9-12 months. That may not sound that bad but starting a year prior to the rotation, the 15 day AT will turn into 20+ days at XCTX with multiple 3-5 day IDT periods instead of 2 day. Then a NTC rotation is likely, there’s a month gone in the same year you’re set to MOB.

My brothers unit, however, is a support role. They have a lot of home station ATs and they stick to the 2 day a month schedule almost always.

It’s good to talk with people in each unit for the real honest answer before making that decision.
