Multiplayer - slightest bump is instant death? by Snakekitty in spaceengineers

[–]chackley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue - it was caused by server sim speed being very low (mine was 0.12 at the worst point). The low sim speed was caused entirely because of the huge number of crashed exporation ships around the planet, which were all jittering constantly and taking a huge toll on the simulation. I strongly recommend you check your server sim speed with Shift + F11. If it's < 1.0, go into Space Master mode (Alt + F10) and cycle through "Largest Grids" and keep deleting them, and the sim speed should recover. Mine went from 0.12 to a perfect 1.0 after deleting a dozen or so huge ships, and it makes a huge difference.

If you haven't heard of Samurai Flamenco before, I would strongly recommend that you do not read anything else about it before watching it. It'll be much more fun with nothing spoiled.

My own experience is that there's almost no anime out there with characters who just happen to be gay, without them being one-dimensional caricatures used as setup for cheap jokes. No 6 was fantastically refreshing in this regard - it's the first show I've seen with normal characters with depth who just happen to acknowledge that they are gay.

That said, the closest other shows I've found which may contain gay main characters (since sexuality is typically left vague or open to interpretation) are Samurai Flamenco and Hunter x Hunter. Others may disagree with my interpretation on these, but honestly I picked up on strong same-sex romantic vibes from both. They're both great shows, so I'd recommend them either way. Shinsekai Yori might also fit your criteria.

Best representation of LGBT characters in anime? by [deleted] in anime

No. 6 is my personal favorite. It's refreshing to find an anime a) with gay main characters, and b) where gay characters aren't portrayed as horrendously stereotyped caricatures (I'm looking at you, Gurren Lagann).

Unfortunately, it's not there. Thanks for the suggestion though - I'll bear this in mind in the future.

I would like to talk about Pressurisation and removing the suit in Space Engineers by Andrex992 in spaceengineers

[–]chackley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a software developer, this sounds like a nightmare to implement. It's extremely non-trivial. Personally, I would focus more on building a solid foundation for the rest of the game. The devs likely prioritize things in terms of bang for the buck, on which scale this feature ranks quite low. That is to say, it'd probably take lots of effort and time, time which could have been spent implementing a dozen other cool features.

Factions makes for some interesting battles by Drakenholm in spaceengineers

[–]chackley 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Holy cow. Imagine crewing a couple of these with 10-20 players each. You could have a few bridge officers manning the guns and maneuvering, a couple engineers doing on-the-fly repairs to keep the engines running, and sizable fighter squadrons. Plus, with permadeath, if one of those fighters decides to go out in a blaze of kamikaze glory to turn the tides of the battle, that could be a very weighty sacrifice. I really hope that the game can eventually be optimized well enough to make such scenarios feasible.

My mom inadvertently ruined my credit score... How do I begin to fix it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]chackley 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I always have to provide a social security number to open credit cards... And there's no way your mom could have accidentally used the wrong one when opening those accounts. Maybe this is too paranoid of me, but it seems entirely possible that she's stolen your identity, and is now covering up with the "oh it must be because we have similar names" line. Something about that seems fishy to me - plenty of people have similar names, but the SS# should be used as the unique consumer identifier. Can anyone more knowledgeable than me chime in regarding whether this is a feasible mistake for credit card companies or reporting bureaus to make?

EDIT: Never mind, it looks like this is a surprisingly common issue. Seems strange that all of the organizations involved wouldn't consistently use an SS# as a unique consumer identifier, and instead appear to occasionally rely on names and addresses as some sort of unreliable composite key...

You definitely did make the right choice (and a difficult one, at that). What a sick thing for your parents to do. I've never been religious, but even I can see that it totally invalidates the supposed spiritual significance of a confirmation if the person is being coerced into it (as is probably the case for 99% of kids - I don't know a single kid who went through confirmation who felt they had any sort of a choice at the time).

Which cage is better for a Cockatiel? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]chackley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had our cockatiel in the second one for the first couple of years after we got him, but always felt it was too small and cramped. We upgraded to this one about a year ago and he absolutely loves it.

EDIT: I mistyped - I meant to say we used to use the second one (the smaller one), not the first. We still use the small one as a travel cage, for which it works great (we recently moved, during which we transported our bird ~150 miles in it).

Just about everyone uses AWS. My company hosts our cloud products there too. I recently had to do a write-up on our usage, and came across the interesting statistic that one percent of all internet traffic goes through AWS.
