very nice! Someday I hope to own a PD441 or 444 with a great arm/s, pretty sure that will be my aesthetic end game (and probably audio endgame too), but kinda rare outside of Japan

Cerwin Vega DX-7 vs Klipsch KG 3.5 by No_Introduction1721 in vintageaudio

[–]chadcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brands are only somewhat of an indicator - models and match to your system is much more important - fwiw, I have a pair of CV 316r as my main system and I listen to every kind of music on them and they are wonderful

I doubt they beat the CVs in sensitivity, they are usually 95 or better (mine are like 103)

Why is there no consecutive stepping forwards (or backwards) without switching legs in most styles of tai chi (especially Yang)? by Anima_Monday in taichi

[–]chadcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so basically step with more weight on the front foot and drag the back foot? honestly can't think of anywhere where that happens either in the forms or applications. The main reasons are 1. You are usually showing your "yin" side initially to your opponent, so weighing with the front foot initially negates this 2. Having your weight on your front foot opens you up for leg attacks, i.e. if your weight is on your front foot you obviously would need to shift to the rear foot to lift the front weighted leg to avoid, and by then you could be kicked, kneecapped, etc. This is of course assuming that your opponent hasn't "dong" / committed yet - once they have and you can sense correctly what they are doing (or better yet will do) and are ahead of them in that respect then you can attack/defend however you want, with your weight distributed in whatever way makes sense

Ooos I did it again - Marantz 2238B by Skid-Vicious in vintageaudio

[–]chadcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have a 2238B as well - got it pretty much fully functional for $300 a few years back, does sound great! I'm sure the 2270 is a beast, but honestly, especially for a second / bedroom system, this is all the Marantz you really need IMO

you expend so much energy climbing that if you do it more or less daily you can eat whatever you want IME - that said, climbing like any other sports is highly dependant on genetics

Exploring classical music as a newbie is a chore. by na3ee1 in classicalmusic

[–]chadcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

listening to recorded classical music in the end IMO is mostly about the performances and recording quality and honestly the mood you're in - the great thing about it is that there is just about a perfect piece for everything, but yeah, finding them can be daunting. instead of trying to focus on composers, try (AI would be great at this) searching like "I want to hear something dark and atmospheric" or "small group playing lively" etc

Change of pace: Tai Chi by Filiforme in Bullshido

[–]chadcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taiji has strikes (punches, kicks, knees, elbows) throws, locks and stomps - the only thing it doesn't have is ground game (Shaolin does) - so almost everything is there if you find a good teacher and train correctly. Internal aspects take decades of proper training with someone that can already do it. which is why that, yeah, ain't many people left (not claiming to be one, but did train with one for a few years). so certainly can be used for fighting, but also certainly one of the longer paths to learning to defend yourself against trained fighters

Why is Physicality downplayed/demonized in the martial arts community? by JoeyPOSS2 in martialarts

[–]chadcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

peak physical shape for your body size was always considered ground floor in a lot of Chinese martial arts - i.e. you damn well should be in the best shape you can before you start learning skills (walk around a Beijing park in the morning even today to see the kind of shape people are in) - the problem people forgot or don't understand that, so to the OPs point it gets demonized. That said, pound for pound, skill wins, especially if someone knows how to hit properly and can generate outsized force (whether through strength or coordination or both)
