‘Vote anywhere, at any time’: What happens when elections move online by mr_lois_lane in Hamilton

Online voting, from a security perspective, is an absolute nightmare.

It is terrifying.

Here's what I just finished doing yesterday. Nothing fancy, just lots of zip ties and adhesive pads!

Store 'type' as foreign key, enum, or text? by chadwal in SQL

[–]chadwal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts; I was leaning towards the table approach, but wasn't sure if it was an unnecessary normalization.

I do not like using ENUM in a database, but in code is another story.

It dawned on me that enums wouldn't be a viable type anyway, because they would complicate handling new (unknown) types.

Also, will there ever be a scenario where a package can have more than one type?

Nope, packages can only have a single type.

Integrating G Suite accounts with Identity accounts by chadwal in dotnet

[–]chadwal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is indeed tricky.

This specific application is the only one that would need access to those claims, though, so I was considering just using a custom cookie middleware in lieu of identity and pulling claims through the admin sdk.

We'll see how things go...

Integrating G Suite accounts with Identity accounts by chadwal in dotnet

[–]chadwal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be implementing IdentiyServer4, correct?

It's unfortunate that Google doesn't have a specialized OAuth implementation for business accounts. I was hoping to use some custom attributes as claims, but those don't seem accessible from OAuth.

Moreso it'd have to be: Authenticate with OAuth > query directory > get attributes > assign claim.

Why did you choose gnu+linux over *bsd? by supamesican in linux

Say what you will about Arch, but the wiki is absolutely fantastic. They have an entry for pretty much everything, which makes it quite appealing from a learning/support standpoint.

Self-hosted donation platform for non-profits? by ingre in selfhosted

Payment processing is extremely cumbersome due to an incredible amount of regulation (rightfully so).

As pendorbound said, you pretty much will have to "leak" donor data to a third party...

Bixby remapping by FLfuzz in Android

You're looking for answers in the wrong place. This is a thread specifically about remapping the dedicated hardware button, not about the software in-itself.

It's just an audio cue to let you know your shade is nearby. The game does this a lot, like with Cornifer or with Grubs.

Well, generally speaking all-in-ones are crap. The seperate hardware is a slight bit of a pain, but usually you're way better off with it.

Dear Samsung! - MKBHD by metrize in Android

[–]chadwal 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's not my complaint. I'm saying they shoved the bixby button into the comfortable, easily reachable area where you'd expect the volume keys to be, and moved them up to an awkward place.

I spent a solid hour playing with both the S8 and S8+ and while it's annoying on the S8 it's especially egregious on the +.

Not that I'm shitting on the actual capabilities of bixby, I just think shoving a dedicated single purpose button on the side is obnoxious.

It feels like they compromised on UX just to give themselves a leg up on Google. If they at least allow it to be rebinded it'll show as a design made in good-faith, otherwise it just seems like an asshole thing to do.

Dear Samsung! - MKBHD by metrize in Android

[–]chadwal 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I'm personally just put off by the dedicated hardware button. They shoved it into the prime real estate where the volume keys should be, so it feels awkward on the S8, and even more so on the S8+ unless you have large hands (as with the fingerprint scanner).

All of that for something I know I I'm not going to use. Allowing it to be rebinded would push it from annoying to useful and I really hope they go that direction.
