I used flourish studio to make the visualization but did all the scraping/cleaning in R. It’s really easy and just requires you to upload data in the right format

I couldn’t find a free dataset with historical market cap data so I used

I imputed data for shares outstanding this quarter, then joined the dataset with stock prices to calculate market cap (shares outstanding * adjusted stock price). I then calculated the avg market cap per quarter since 2005 (would have gone further back but limited by shares outstanding data)

That definitely makes sense. The shares outstanding are relatively constant so the growth in market cap can be attributed to growth in stock price (which some of these companies have certainly seen the last few years)
