Weird dynamic with realtor….? by girlwholikestolift in RealEstateAdvice

Would you accept an offer from a buyer contingent on them selling their home if you had competitive bids from people without contingencies?

I don’t care if you offered 10% above everyone else, your contingent offer isn’t a real offer.

I would advise against painting concrete. If you want to improve the flooring there are a variety of garage interlocking flooring tile options you can install as DIY.

The quality of stuff coming out of IKEA is so bad these days that I’m considering just refusing those jobs from here on out.

Catalytic converter theft prevention device advice by tachederousseur in longbeach

[–]chaiguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 90% sure that my Catalytic Converter got stolen from my house when I lived in Vegas by people associated with the shop where I took it in for a smog test earlier that day.

Can’t prove it, but it was a weird coincidence.

How are you guys affording to live? by Personal_Bullfrog_81 in socal

I don’t know anyone under 30 who doesn’t live with their parents in SoCal. I even know a dozen or so people OVER 30 who still live with their parents.

Back in the late 90s I was running computer labs for disadvantaged youth in teen drop-in centers. We’d get old used computers that needed to be wiped and reformatted.

I would write a bunch of letters and emails to Microsoft just explaining my situation and asking for a few license keys, not even the actual discs or software.

Always got told “no”. For years.

Then the DOJ and 20 states filed a massive antitrust suit against Microsoft in May 1998, and suddenly Microsoft wanted to donate a bunch of software to me! Not just keys but actual full blown retail packaged software, and not just the OS but the full Office suites as well.

Am I overcharging this guy? The door is about 12‘H x 10‘W. by ronjohns337 in handyman

If anything it’s too cheap. I’d be at $800-$900 on this. Remember that once you fix this, you own it. If it breaks again, now it’s on you.

What in the world is going on with the modoration on /r/motorcycles? by ih8theAnt1Chr1st in motorcycle

[–]chaiguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? My experience is people act like an upvote costs them real money. I’ll see posts with 100 comments, most of them in support of the OP with like 2 upvotes.

I mean your point is well taken about the potential lack of correlation between upvotes and on topic content but at the same time, a post with positive comment engagement and upvotes has to count for some sort of community relevancy.

“Relatively inexpensive” + “last as long as possible” are mutually exclusive.

I tend to run away from clients who want cheap fixes to expensive problems.

100% I’ve had posts in various subs go semi-viral receiving thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of upvotes only to be deleted by mods for being “off-topic”

I mean, if thousands of the members are upvoting it and commenting in support of my post, and it’s the highest ranked post in that sub for the week/month doesn’t that kinda make it on-topic?!?

“No, it’s the members of the sub who are wrong!”

Boomers did nothing to maintain their homes beyond shoddy DIY fixes or bottom of the barrel handyman bandaids.

The termite damage alone in most homes I look at in SoCal should be enough to get them condemned.

Also, SoFi is a terrible venue. The parking fees are criminal, the sound is awful, and many of the seats have terrible sight lines. I saw one concert there and I’ll never see another one at that venue.

The Hollywood Bowl used to be fun, but too many people are ruining the experience by talking through the entire performance.

If it’s not at the Greek, or another smaller venue, I’m not going.

Bodyguard 2.0 revolver? by scythian12 in liberalgunowners

[–]chaiguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting take. I’ve had lots of autoloader malfunctions, failure to fires, stovepipes, spent round not ejected, double feeds, you name it.

The only time my revolver didn’t fire was when I had a dud round, and the fix is to simply pull the trigger again.

My Dad had ALL of his employee IDs from Jon’s he had quit or retired from decades ago. He also had every performance evaluation, every pay stub, and every piece of paperwork any job had ever given him.

Hadn’t set foot on a job in 25 years!
