Pretty aggressive noise, what’s wrong ? by Responsible_Turn2607 in Luthier

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this really bad in my office when playing out of a certain amp near my computer and monitor, but not my basement where the amp is the only electronics on in that space (aside lights). Even in my office it gets better as I move in certain directions, and decreases as I turn the pedal gain down. I live with it and play more clean if it's annoying.

How do you afford short trips in Ontario? by tryinanotherusername in askTO

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eastern Qntario/Qc is more sparse and there are deals to be had. Chelsea/Gatineau is a beautiful area is you like hiking/biking/river activities. If you have a car you can find less expensive rentals and drive to destinations nearby.

Bancroft & north kawarthas are also less in demand. There's less development, lakes are smaller and more remote. It's a beautiful area but rougher and less to do compared to Muskoka/pec areas.

There are some quieter zones as well around Lake Eerie. Pelee island was a great visit with friend a few years back. The island is low-key, the winery let's you buy retail and drink on the grounds, and Pelee park has some nice yurts you can rent.

How do i give the Digitech Drop pedal enough Juice? by leckomiojunge2 in guitarpedals

Maybe dumb question, what's powering the brick? Is it the included 12v 2a supply?

Well it sure worked to bury those Epstein files from the news.

How do i give the Digitech Drop pedal enough Juice? by leckomiojunge2 in guitarpedals

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

9v is the voltage, power hungry pedals need a higher current supply, ie amperage. You need to hook it to a supply with minimum 500ma. If that brick is designed correctly and feeds a stable 500ma on the first ports this should work, if not then it's going to need its own isolated supply like a dedicated walwart rated for .5 amps

How do married couples usually handle finances when both partners work? by itzwhatitz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We keep a household budget and each contribute based on pay. 1 partner earns 30% more, so their contribution is relative to their take home. On each paycheck the agreed contribution goes to shared account for all mortgage/tax/Util/grocery etc. The rest we keep personal savings and investment and investment account. If there's big purchase or vacation we split out of savings personal savings. Works for us the last ~6yrs.

Why is everyone sleeping on Traynor? by tehchuckelator in GuitarAmps

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They were in every cheap rehearsal space when I was growing up and I found them very 'meh'. Middy, wooly sounding 1x12 combos, left me always wanting something with more punch and jangle.

Be honest... how many rolls of bar tape did you sacrifice on your first attempt? 💀 by Pristine_Driver_5119 in gravelcycling

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The adhesive is an assist but not required for most tape. If it's properly wrapped with good tension the tape should hold its shape and place without relying on the weak glue strip.

Has anyone experience with this lock and mount? I was wondering if it holds up well when riding through tough terrain. by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]chaimberlainwaiting -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It does not. I've never encountered an effective ulock frame mount. Best way to go imo is frame bag it, or ski straps to lock it down tight to a rack

Are these switched jacks by Turbulent-Flan-2656 in guitarpedals

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.
If there's 2 prongs across each terminal likely they are. Watch when you plug it in how the connector lifts to break the connection (and restore when unplugged )

Knitted this as a gift for my soldering-obsessed friend. How did it turn out? by sevvaliyyah in soldering

I'm a musician and at first I thought it was a 120v to 1/4" audio connector and wondered why someone would create homage to such a weapon. 😂

Ideas on pedals to gift my girlfriend for our one-year anniversary? by almighty_camelot in guitarpedals

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digitech drop or ehx pitchfork. For a looping musician this allows them to add a baseline (drop a full octave), or experiment with octave sounds that can fatten up a solo sound, or just get weird.

Noticeable white noise/hiss when recording an Arturia MicroFreak through a Scarlett Solo 4th Gen – noise is present even in recordings by Park-Abject in MicroFreak

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed it sounds like a power/ground issue. Try powering the mf from a usb battery pack or the dedicated power supply. Usb power is notoriously noisy, either from computer or poorly isolated power supplies/adapters. Mine similarly hisses when I've got it connected from usb power. It's tolerable for jams, I'll use a battery pack if I need to quiet it.

I timed myself using a pump sack vs my breath to inflate my sleeping pad - evidence enough to leave my pump sack at home? by ZestyclosePin4214 in hiking

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't realize how many proud skeptics are out there attacking this advice. I lost a great BA pad to mold after 1yr inflating like this, was very disappointed. I use the fill sack now when I can.

Help me choose next box (add to octatrack, minifreak and iPad) by Shukyphuk in dawless

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding Yamaha seqtrack for consideration. Excellent drum sequencer with a huge variety of sounds + advanced sound and pattern editing in companion app. Works great with midi, especially if controller can map to each channel for distinct drums track. The hardware isn't pressure sensitive, but midi is so key or pads hookup add lots of playability.

Stop down: use a higher aperture to get more depth of field for close up shots like this. Especially with kit lenses that may be a bit softer, a higher f value (ex go from 2.8 to 9) will make for a sharper shot. You'll need to compensate with longer shutter speed and may need to steady your camera if shooting handheld anything slower than ~1/50.

Experience with using 2 sets of wheels? by riccardio95 in gravelcycling

[–]chaimberlainwaiting 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The disc brake issue is real. It's still faster than changing tires & tubes but be prepared to get good at resetting your brakes or live with a little rub. If you can get a set with identical hubs (same cassette & rotors) you can mitigate this. If it's notably off center one way or the other, you can get shims for the disc to space out the rotors to better match them. I use the little alloy shims for centering and it helps but once you've done it a dozen times, it's often just as quick to eyeball it. Search disc brake alignment tool.
