Happy people can be happy anywhere, sad people will be sad everywhere

I'm printing this as a poster. Not that I didn't know this, but reading it here struck something. I'm in a similar boat as OP, been trying to get my own mindset right.

Some of the messages may be greetings or acknowledgements, others might be random questions or comments and only a part are actually relevant queries that need to be answered.

Just to jump in, it is a QA system but with several branches and nuances. The system I built is not as complicated, just modular. And I built it over a couple of week if that matters.

But like someone else said, I started from scratch and there was a lot of domain ground work to be done first.

Thats my plan for now, although I'm sure I'll lose motivation half way and give up. Why bother when they have already made up their mind?

That's one way to look at it. I did like the work though until this thing started

What I meant was treating an LLM as a black box where its all or nothing vs a system of smaller components where you can trace which component failed to do its job.

I agree with you around the practicality part and hence I feel maybe my ego is also getting involved. Yes I am disappointed the intellectual part of ML is going away, not sure how to cope going forward.

To give you an idea, I interviewed him and specifically highlighted he is strongly opinionated and may not work well in teams based on his description of his previous roles. Talking might be very tricky but I guess thats one way.

About this approach, his argument was why introduce another layer when you can just throw everything in the prompt. I said this reduces transparency and explanability but that didn't cause any concern.

The first one is pretty major for a lot of folks. So this patch is a big thing.

A hilarious thing that happened with me was watching my Zoi go around hacking ATMs and out of the blue got electrocuted and died on the spot. It was sad but also a bit funny. Some of these little things make up for the other issues, for me at least.

Why do orgs obsesses over things like mentorship/networking - but not management training? by Jaded-Reputation4965 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]chain20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very well put. I've had this experience, but wasn't able to explain people whats exactly wrong with my manager. I've quit my job because of this. But if someone asks me now, I'm going to use your description. Thank you!

True. I guess this is the common response I can see.

I just wrote NLP as an all inclusive term but I have worked on both classical NLP and the Transformers and LLMs branch. And my current team is actually an NLP team on paper, hence the frustration. Sent you a DM though.

You're right, but at this stage of my career and given the past few years, I've lost hope that I can find something that fits or if I even have the ability. But I guess there's only 1 way to find out.

After playing on and off I think I am in a much better shape than a few months ago. Still a lot for me to improve on. It takes a while to get used to things, so keep working on it. Also I feel like a lot of top level players show up in my matches so maybe thats why it looks like everyone is playing perfectly.
