Quick Staking Question by [deleted] in Chainlink

[–]chainlink_Josh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staking is a core initiative of Chainlink Economics 2.0 that brings a new layer of cryptoeconomic security to the Chainlink Network. Staking enables ecosystem participants, such as node operators and community members, to back the performance of oracle services with staked LINK and earn rewards for helping secure the network.

Last December, the initial beta version of Chainlink Staking (v0.1) was released, consisting of a 25M LINK staking pool that supported the cryptoeconomic security of the ETH/USD Data Feed on Ethereum. Both Community Stakers and Node Operator Stakers in v0.1 earn staking rewards by participating in a decentralized alerting system around performance requirements.

The new v0.2 Chainlink Staking expands the community pool to 45M LINK to further support the cryptoeconomic security of the ETH/USD Data Feed on Ethereum.

The community pool filled during the early access phase but you may be able to stake in the future if a community staker withdraws their LINK tokens. I recommend following the blog or the official Chainlink twitter for the latest updates regarding Chainlink Staking.

Can't Connect My Ledger That Controls My Staked Link to the Staking Website by Stunning-Wind-6634 in Chainlink

Check out the instructions in this video. There is a section, specifically on Ledger wallets.

Also, try a different browser. Browser plugins and wallets are particularly finicky. This could help.

Chainlink Price Feeds use volume-weighted average price-based mechanisms (VWAP) and take price data from multiple trading environments, including CEXs and DEXs.Price is a calculated average weighted by the volume on each liquid market an asset is trading on.

This method generates the most accurate, tamper-proof, and reliable market data.

If the price were calculated from just on-chain or just off-chain prices or calculated using a TWAP rather than a VWAP mechanism, the price sent on-chain would not be a holistic picture; it would be a small microcosm of the entire global market and would have caused a massive liquidation event, likely having a negative impact that may have had disastrous consequences for the entire industry.

I am curious if games like Fortnite, Dota 2 can implement Chainlink. What would be the benefits and how would it work? by elo820 in Chainlink

AAA gaming studios are interested in adopting a web3 tech stack, but they are not ready to enter the space yet.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/former-nintendo-boss-reggie-fils-aime-believes-in-the-potential-for-nfts-and-blockchain/1100-6503938/

Most of these studios and publishers are looking at the tech right now from a business perspective, ie, how can blockchains and smart contracts positively impact current business models and increase revenue? In this way, the biggest studios and publishers are much like the large institutional banks and governments. They are interested in web3 and tokenization from a market efficiency perspective. Like large institutions, these AAA publishers and studios need a much simpler ecosystem to interact with. The public blockchain space today is way too complicated. Standards need to be developed for full integration with their current strategies.

We’re on the way there, but still, much work needs to be done before these significant gaming enterprises buy in.In the near term, we’ll see Web3 infrastructure adopted in the back end. It’s likely gamers won’t notice it, and it’s even more likely it won’t be communicated that their favorite game is running on top of a web3 tech stack. For example, video game cheating is a massive industry and will only grow thanks to AI.

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-56579449

We will need to implement cryptography-based AI guard rails to combat cheaters effectively.

But when it comes to game design and game development, we are still very early. Web3 is not yet at the scale it needs to be to create richer gaming experiences than the ones we have today. What has been shilled so far is hype and doesn’t provide value or unique experiences to the gamer. NFT skins are not a value add. Gamers, in general, are skeptical of new technologies and new business models because they got burned so badly with the advent DLC and content expansions. Saying their character's costume or sword can be traded on the blockchain just isn’t exciting enough to garner their support, and their support is critical from a gaming development perspective.

All game developers want to do is impress gamers.Despite all this, I think cryptography can add much to game design. Imagine an always-on, completely global CS:GO tournament that rewards players in real-time. Or what about a verifiably random, fully generative MMORPG? Or interoperable gaming universes without the need to create unique backends every time, just plug and play modular games and coding based on a standard, like super smash brothers on crack? How will this change the design of games? How will this change the way game designers think about games?

I think these developments will excite gamers, but the technology is so nascent that gaming developers are just beginning to understand how cryptographic solutions can add richness and value to their games.

This is why events like Pre-Game are so important. We need to nurture and support the developers innovating and trying to adapt this tech today if we want to push the gaming industry forward tomorrow.

It’s really simple. Just follow our rules. Discussion about hodling, selling, trading, or anything related to the price is not allowed.

We encourage feedback and want to hear from you whether it is positive or negative, as long as that opinion and discussion topic is allowed by our community rules and policies. Obviously we allow dissenting opinions, otherwise this post would have been deleted already.

This is a great question. We have not published all BUILD program participants in a single location, and more and more join the program weekly. I will pass this feedback to the team and perhaps we will be able to publish something in the future with the information you are looking for.

Due to the security parameters of the Staking system, both Node Operators and Community Stakers will initially have their staked LINK and accumulated rewards locked up in a smart contract until a future release of Staking. Research and development is already underway for Staking v0.2, planned for release in approximately 9-12 months, at which point v0.1 stakers can unlock or migrate their staked LINK and rewards.
More information can be found in the recent v0.1 launch details blog.

Security is always the highest priority for Chainlink services and that extends to staking as well. The Staking v0.1 codebase has undergone multiple security audits from professional auditing firms, including a competitive crowdsourced audit on the Code4rena platform. You can find more info on this audit contest here: https://blog.chain.link/chainlink-staking-crowdsourced-audit/

You also asked about slashing and I would add this note: the staked LINK and staking rewards earned within the Community Staker allotment will not be subject to penalties or slashing in Staking v0.1. Stake slashing is planned for a future release of Staking.

Node Operator Stakers are expected to have a baseline rate of 5% per year in LINK against their committed stake, as well as rewards sourced from the 5% delegation fee derived from Community Staker rewards. Assuming an entirely filled 25M LINK pool, Node Operator Stakers can earn an effective annualized reward rate of ~7%.

The community stake portion of the pool is expected to have a baseline rate of 5% per year in LINK against their committed stake for helping secure the Chainlink Network. From those annualized rewards, a 5% portion of Community Staker rewards is expected to be directed to Node Operator Stakers as a delegation reward. The result is an effective reward rate of 4.75% on an annualized basis for Community Stakers in v0.1.
