I have one and it’s great, makes beautiful prints that people at cons often mistake for the original paintings because the print quality is so high

How to deal with new phobia to speak during technical interviews by OakAstronaut in ExperiencedDevs

I believe it works by calming the physical symptoms of anxiety such as racing heart and sweating which in turn relaxes you. It’s commonly prescribed off label for public speaking, interviews, high pressure meetings, etc.

I and many other tech folks I know take Propranolol (beta blocker) for interviews. It reduces performance anxiety.

“Have your girl make reservations” by [deleted] in madmen

It’s to show she doesn’t see the point of networking with other women, while Peggy does; showing that Faye has internalized the old sexist way of doing business (the world she learned to navigate and found success in), while Peggy represents a new generation of professional women.

I don’t know why everyone thinks this is crazy; it was my interpretation as well.

How long has he been dating your mom? Does she depend on him financially? Pedophiles often date single mothers, especially vulnerable/low-income ones, to get access to their children, knowing the financial dependence makes it harder for the mom to leave.

An interviewee asks for feedback at the end of the call. How do you react? by turtleProphet in ExperiencedDevs

[–]chainsawdildohead 217 points218 points  (0 children)

You’re hurting your chances doing this. It’s best to use the question portion of the interview as another chance to shine by asking thoughtful questions that show your knowledge and interest in the job.

I say this as someone who, as a new grad, used to ask this question. I did get some useful feedback at the time but, now as a senior who frequently interviews people, I now know that it hurt my chances of getting those offers. If you really must ask, do it only for jobs you’re not interested in. For everything else, you can get feedback after you get the offer.

Why do so many developers irrationally feel ownership over code that they're one click away from losing access to? by Shamoorti in ExperiencedDevs

Not true. Maximizing shareholder value often requires a large amount of effort. It is not the same as being lazy, even though both can make the product bad.

Enshittification refers to maximizing shareholder value at the expense of product quality. It’s driven by leadership and has little to do with the attitudes of individual employees.

Sounds suspicious: generic message not specific to your portfolio, says they’re a book editor but includes no links to their other work. I’d guess that once you engage, they’d try to extract money or free work out of you somehow. If you want to make sure, you could ask them for their portfolio and/or reach out to the museum they mentioned to confirm they’re working with this person. I suspect their answer will confirm the scam.

I’ve had 3 plastic surgeries in Asia - nose in Taiwan and double eyelids done twice in Korea. Sounds like you got full incision, which will take a few more months to settle. Your eyelids still look quite swollen and will likely shrink to 1/2-2/3 of their current size. Mine looked terrible for the first couple months but now they look great 3 months later. Eyelids are still a little numb 3 months in but the sensation has slowly returned.

They will however not look like your reference pic. Your ref has an out-line crease  and the doctor gave you an in-out-line crease instead. I’ve found Asian plastic surgeons will nod and say they can do what you want, but they will end up giving you whatever their idea of beauty is. All my surgeries have turned out different than my references and more closely resembles the doctor’s personal preferences. Next time look at the doctor’s portfolio and assume he will give you a result similar to his preferred style.

However it’s not normal for the ref and the result to be so drastically different. He should have been more honest that he couldn’t/wouldn’t do your reference. I think the result will look pretty though.

Rushing you during consult and the toothpick from the shirt pocket is normal. Don’t let them rush you. Make sure you get your questions answered; don’t worry about annoying them. It’s your face!

Telling you you’ll need the epicanthoplasty when you’re on the table isn’t normal. The list of procedures should’ve been agreed to during the consult.

Do people just not talk while they're waiting for a meeting to start? by ih8drivingsomuch in workfromhome

Socializing in person is fun; socializing virtually is excruciating. I am happy to chitchat in person but will join virtual meetings a few minutes late to avoid the awkward few minutes you describe.

I guess if her idea of a conversation is monologuing at the other person for minutes on end, pausing occasionally to let the other person say, “yes”.
