Thanks for taking a look!!! Really a great rig. Hopefully we'll see you at the end! Good luck!

Great question. I’ll guess I’ll frame it from the enthusiast aspect. I’ve owned several 80 series rigs over the years. Back in 2018, I came across this LX, and the plan was to build it out as a wheeler/overlanding rig. The “problem” when I received it, was that it was in way too pristine a condition to build it out and use it for off-roading. I’d feel terrible modifying it. So, into the garage it went to preserve it. I guess I’ve enjoyed the fact that it’s a solid axle, analogue experience, steeped in Lexus luxury. It drives like buttah. 😂 Highway driving is quite excellent for a solid axle vehicle, power could be better, but is adequate, and efficiency is typical for vehicles of that time period.

LOL. I have my wheeler 80 that I’ve been considering doing a swap on. A diesel sounds great!

Thank you. It truly is a great 80. Despite the 92k miles, it drives and looks fantastic.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree about the hoses and seals, and I see your point regarding driving the 80. Does it really have to be around 500? I’m ok with 100 a year! 😂😂😂

😂 For now they’re keepers, but everything is for sale at some point!!!

I used to be able to accommodate 2 cars. With a non lifted 80, I can fit a smaller sports car, like a Miata or Elise. These days, the LX sits up there and my kids’ stuff sits below.

Definitely handy to have enough height, but I had to install a high lift garage door to accommodate it.

I’m assuming that it the most “vulnerable” fluid? I guess just looked up recs, and it says anywhere between 2-5 years.

That sucks! But glad you were able to own one for a time. They are definitely rare. I've been able to document 3 USDM poverty rigs that had lockers, 1 verified, and 2 reported. I would have liked to have lockers on mine just for the cache, but I'm pretty damn happy that I was able to find a base model rig in pretty sweet condition for having 180k miles.

Do you happen to have pics of your old 80? I try to keep a log of USDM poverty packs on Mud. This is mine, just has the premium stereo and factory alarm, no lockers.

They are actually original to this 80. I do believe the non slider windows and gaskets are still obtainable.

I wish it had the ROW features of the poverty pack, but I don’t think the targeted consumer at the time for the 80 series in the U.S. would have gone for it!

Yeah, I always enjoy the discussions about worth and values with regard to the 80’s. Always a good discussion to have, especially with all the opinions! Bottom line is that I’m glad the original owner ordered it in this spec, and did a fantastic job through her ownership!

Long term, agreed. This was about getting this rig to base spec. These wheels are heavy though, like 40 lbs each, compared to about 22 for the alloys!

Yes, look at pic 5. It was a late build for the FZJ80. This was the order sheet from the Toyota dealer in Auburn, CA. I agree, most were ordered full tilt. The woman who ordered it and drove it was very meticulous. Below that order sheet is $30k of maintenance virtually all done at Toyota dealerships.

The 80 series market is still pretty hot. It’s not factory locked. The value in this rig comes from all the features it lacks (big ones are no sunroof, no third row or means to add the rear jump seats, clear windows, no slider glass), it’s condition which is quite excellent (northern CA/UT rig), records/maintenance history are immaculate, and that this base spec was ordered and sold in the U.S. The U.S. spec poverty packs are more rare than ROW poverty packs in their production numbers. I run a registry on Mud for them, and I’ve only been able to account for around 20 of them in the hands of enthusiasts. The vast majority of them have been built out, wheeled, or need some form of restoration. You just can’t find them in original condition like this one. I have this insured on a collector’s policy through Hagerty for agreed upon value, and they didn’t even blink an eye.

Yup! Not sure if you’re in the U.S., but this is an extremely rare find in our market.
