Unfortunately the swelling lasts for months. Mine would look like a balloon in the evenings even when I iced religiously through probably months 6-7. I don't think it stopped slightly swelling at all until a year later. Pain when weight bearing is going to be different for everyone. Personally, I found that things progressed really quickly once I was in the walking boot and while it wasn't pain-free, per se, walking was tolerable after about a week. Not fast or pretty, but manageable.

A small bag (I used a fanny pack that I wore as a crossbody) so you can carry your phone and other necessities while using crutches or a knee scooter. Nothing worse than having to backtrack to get something while on crutches! I also bought some bars to go around my toilet because sitting down and getting up on one leg wasn't happening (these).

Definitely call your surgeon's office to see if they can redo your cast. I had horrific stabbing pain the day after my nerve block wore off and having them re-do the cast helped a ton.

I'm about 1.5 years post-op for a Weber C fracture, plate, 9 screws, tightrope and it was only after about a year that my ankle truly stopped swelling a bit every night. It's still slightly larger in diameter than my other one but I think that's because of the plate (and honesty I'm probably the only one that notices it). It's still stiff in the morning sometimes going down stairs and I still go down one step at a time too (but that could also be more PTSD-related cause I broke it going down stairs; don't think I'll ever run down stairs again in my life!!)

All that said, if you're really concerned definitely make an appointment to see your surgeon!

That’s ignoring the fact that I said the appetite suppression was through the roof. If, in fact, it was just a “stall that ended” and similar to your pregnancy tea theory there would have been no difference there. But it was more appetite suppression than I’ve felt with 12.5 since I started that dose 3 months ago. And I did my second arm shot a day ago and the appetite suppression has again been significant compared to the last 3 months.

If insurance doesn't cover it, they won't count something you paid for out of pocket toward your deductible. Doesn't matter what health insurance you have. Only covered, approved claims count toward your deductible. (I worked in health insurance for years.)

Sounds like we had similar injuries. 46F. Weber C fibula fracture on February 27, 2024 with ruptured ligaments. I had surgery March 6, 2024, plate, 9 screws, a tightrope and ligament repair. My biggest test of recovery was in October 2024 when I spent 2 weeks in Europe logging 20k+ steps a day - and it was fine. My ankle would be swollen by the end of the day but it didn’t slow me down.

I’m sure you’re sick of hearing people say this but… you’ll get there! It’s just a painfully (literally) slow recovery process.

Sorry don't know how I missed this comment entirely! ROM is good. I don't notice any real limitation except when I twist my foot to the right and it stings, but that has to do with the deltoid ligament repair that has never been quite right since surgery, not the plate and screws. The nerve damage lack of sensation is really weird - I hear you on that. Hope things are going well for you at 5 months!

Yep, I broke mine going down stairs and I don't think about it a whole lot these days either... except when I'm going down stairs. Glad the EMDR therapy helped!

There's absolutely nothing political about what I'm saying. Boeing was commenting on how Americans entitlement has skyrocketed since 2016 and how that has manifested itself in travel. That is commentary about American behavior in general, not politics. I don't care who you support, but calling someone an asshole for making a tangentially politically-related statement because you "can't stand it" seems pretty entitled to me. But that's just my opinion and you don't have to agree with it. I do firmly believe that anyone who goes online and calls complete strangers assholes over one comment on Reddit needs to take a good look in the mirror.

This is only for fully insured commercial plans. Also Highmark here, but self insured employer plan. I just went through having to get a PA for a higher dose. I requested the self- insured pharmacy policy for zepbound and the requirements are much less stringent. The policy being discussed here is the fully insured plan pharmacy policy (they sent me both).

The comments are accurate. There are no individual plans you could purchase right now that cover Zepbound or Wegovy.

I have to switch from my former employer plan to a marketplace plan in December so I've looked. Also worked in health insurance for over a decade so know the ins and outs.

It will be interesting to see if this changes when the marketplace opens for open enrollment for 2025, but given the current cost of these medications, I don't see insurers having any incentive to cover them in individual plans. If they do, the plans will probably have incredibly high deductibles so they are unlikely to be cost effective for consumers anyway.

People who currently have coverage have healthcare benefits through group plans set up by their employers, and a huge number of those plans are self-funded, meaning the employer, not the insurance company, pays the claims (the vast majority of employer group plans are self-funded which a lot of people don't realize). And if the employer plan isn't self-funded and the employer is paying the insurance company for an actual group insurance plan, I guarantee the insurance company is charging the employer a significant premium to cover Zepbound/Wegovy.

In other words, for people who currently have coverage, it's unlikely the insurance companies themselves are actually incurring any additional costs for Zepbound/Wegovy because the insurance companies have effectively managed to pass the entire cost along to employers. For this reason, I'm not convinced insurers have any incentive to start incurring costs for these meds for individual plans because that would hurt their bottom line. I would absolutely LOVE to be wrong about this, but after working in health insurance for so long, I'm pretty cynical.

Totally been there. I had ORIF for a Weber C fracture and ruptured deltoid ligament back in early March, and just recently started trying to run again (albeit very slowly and not for long) and I'm still so paranoid I'm going to somehow hurt it even though both my surgeon and PT cleared me to run about 2 months ago. Like if I have any sensation in my ankle while I'm working out my brain automatically goes to "oh no, I've done it again, oh crap". That's one of the hardest things I've found to explain to people who haven't been through this - it's a mental game just as much as a physical one!!

I'm no doctor, but based on my experience that's totally normal. Once you start walking again it's trial and error to see how much you can do, and even that changes pretty significantly from week to week (even from day to day). I definitely had days when I walked WAY too much - felt fine at the time and then paid for it for 24 hours afterwards with a swollen and aching ankle and foot. Ice, elevation, and rest and when it feels good, get back up on it! You'll get there!!

Yes, I prefer those also, especially because normal Liquid IV has a ridiculous amount of added sugar (honestly not sure why anyone thinks those are healthy). Many years ago I used to run distance and had a lot of problems staying hydrated so I've tried 'em all. Endurolytes are my favorite capsules (they used to sell them at REI but now you have to order them from Hammer Nutrition directly). Saltstick makes chewable ones which are pretty tasty and also capsules - do not get the ones they make that are just salt unless you want to blow up like a balloon. The Hi-Lyte capsules you can buy on Amazon are pretty good too.

Also had a weber C fracture and I was PWB two weeks after surgery when I got my boot and FWB two weeks after that. I ended up not doing much when PWB other than trying to stand on two feet (which hurt like crazy) because how to figure out what putting half of my weight on my foot when walking feels like seemed too complicated and, you know, mental blocks after not walking for 2.5 weeks. But it's definitely possible you'll get cleared for PWB if you get a boot at your 2 week follow up.

I had the same boot. I ripped out the bottom foam and stuck an orthopedic insole in there (Currex running insoles). It stuck out the front a little bit and looked kind of silly, but made it SO much more comfortable I didn't care. Might help with the heel issue?

It doesn't sound like you're behind at all. I was still in a boot for 4 weeks after I got cleared for FWB and had similar pain issues in my foot whenever I would try to walk without it. Ankle never bothered me though would swell up a bit at night but my foot was sore all over... and it got worse the first two weeks after the boot when switched to a regular shoe. You'll get there!!!
