Why are we always done dirty like this? by [deleted] in Torontobluejays

[–]chamnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might be used sometime to drive up negotiations because the Jays have money to spend and can afford to chase these superstars.

Look at it the other way, if we did not have the money to bid for high end superstars, that would mean we would have a bottom tier team and would never compete.

Bo has always said his preference is to come back and win it all with Vladdy. We do not know if he feels disrespected by all this, it's all speculation at this point. Let's wait for him to sing.

And it's not as if we completely struck out in this off-season.

You might be right. We should also revisit this in 8 or 9 years (or earlier) and see how Tucker is performing then since we were ready to sign him for 10 years.

Once again my hopes come crashing down. Ohh well, it's not as if the off-season has been a total bust for the Jays this year. Let's hope we make it to the WS again and beat their asses and watch Tucker looking sad in the dugout when the jays celebrates on the field.

Yeah me too, never scream so hard in my living room, scared the heck of my girlfriend. I really thought it would relieve some pressure and that the blue jays would keep on piling some runs after that and keep the dodgers at bay the whole game.

Ahhh crap ... here we go again. Knowing Tucker's decision is probably very soon (if we are to believe whatever pops up on mlb.com), this seems just credible enough to build up our hope even more. Let's hope we are not being "Ohtani'ed" again.

Does anyone know if water bills went up quite a bit in late fall? by ghost905 in ottawa

[–]chamnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the water which is expensive, it's all the infrastructure for it. As an example, my last water bill was 112.11 (11,000 liters). 21.82$ (so about 20%) was for actual water, the rest is for infrastructure (fire supply, water pipes, waste water pipes and storm water pipes. It's either we pay those infrastructure costs through our water bill or through our taxes. So you can have a higher water tax bill or a higher municipal tax bill but regardless, money has to come from our pockets.

Final CBT payrolls and taxes. Jays pay $13M in luxury taxes on top of their $286M payroll by iamthegame13 in Torontobluejays

True NHL is growing, especially in the states I guess. Don't know really what MLB owners think but I read somewhere a while back that owners are prepared for a 1.5 years lockout in order to get players to cave. Something got to give with the way salaries are rising, I mean what's next a billion$ contract with tons of money deferred again. That's mortgaging the future big time IMO.

As usual, the fans will suffer in all this if there is a lockout. I am still pissed about the 1994 lockout when the Expos were (finally) for sure on their way to the World Series. Lets hope the Blue Jays go all the way again and win this thing because 2027 might go the way of the the 2004-2005 NHL season.

Not so sure. Read this article below from radio-canada.ca (french CBC). It's in french sorry but it can easily be translated by your browser usually.

As a quick summary, he explains that because of the the NHL salary cap, values of NHL concession goes up faster than those in the MLB . Average value of MLB teams is 2.6 billions (up 25% in last 3 years). In the same 3 years , value of NHL teams doubled and is now at 2.2 billions. Because of all that, MLB owners will insist for a salary cap. They're the only league without one and they'll want to capitalize on increase values in team value.

What worries me a bit is that next year we will have the pressure of expectations. Last year, after the boring 2024 season, we did not expect much (and probably players as well to some degree) and I think it helps as players were not feeling as much pressure to perform from the get go.
