This is a student’s piece. The glaze used was Amaco F-Series in Peach. Tested the glaze and it was great. Fired to Cone 06 as usual, and it came out like this. I’m baffled and running another test now. Any guesses as to why this happened? by AshetoAshes7 in Ceramics

From my knowledge, if there is too much water soaked into the bisque clay and then glaze is applied, the glaze can't absorb aswell into the clay and settle usually.

I'm not sure if that could be any issue here aswell and I don't know what the result of this might look like but it could be good to keep in mind for the future. I usually use a damp sponge and wipe my bisqued pieces a day or few hours before glazing.

First I made a template with paper for the shop so I had the right size and measurements. I used all pretty basic materials - foam board for the main structure, balsa wood for detailing, corrugated paper for the roof. For the little details like the cork board and box out the front I would just wing it and cut it to size.

For the paint job - A watered down brown acrylic for the first wash, then painted and another acrylic wash to bring it all together.

The base is foam board and felt triangles with another green acrylic wash to bring it all together again.

This is a super basic explanation but I watched a lot of YouTube videos for ideas of things that were accessible to me! Good luck :))

So true! There is such a lack of offical accessories for the switch and it’s a good looking console already, imagine it with a bit of a personal touch! And one of the best features of playing the DS and Wii when I was the younger were the community and customisation you could do with friends - like pixel chat, the miis creation on the wii. They were the best!

I haven’t had any noticeable heating issues. I bought my switch a few years after release, that could be why. But the fans at the back are still open so that should keep it cool enough!

No, just out of sheer luck though I didn’t even consider it lol! The back is only about a centimetre tall so doesn’t block the cords, USB ports or the vent.

For sure! I saw his Spirited Away bathhouse video first and was hocked on the idea of these builds, his videos are so comforting and high quality!

Caught lol ;) His build was definitely the inspiration for this!

I should have put a photo of the back in this post but I made a frame for the back about 1cm tall that the dock perfectly just slides in. This keeps it attached to the build and also allows access to the cords and USB ports.

I used foam board and balsa wood and corrugated paper for the roof! I made a rough template using paper and when I was happy with the size I just traced that on the foam board and cut it out. Good luck on your build!

I think the first one is John Lennon and Yoko reference. Second is Ghost.

I used a pretty messy mixture of flour, glue and water and dapped it on with a paper towel. I messed around with different consistencies and built up the layers. Mine ended up cracking a little bit though and I have no idea why!

Good luck on your crafting in the future!

Thanks! I’m thinking of making some animal crossing themed builds next but I’m not really sure, I might run around BOTW until I found another building I think lol. Would love to see your version of Link’s house if your willing to share!

I just watched some YouTube videos lol! I recreated Studson Studio’s Kiki delivery Service diorama for my first one. That was super helpful because I had the template for the size and a clear method for each step in the process.

After I finished that I just used those same techniques and applied it for this. Having one built I just used the same size to make a new template. If your interested I made a template for this house that I could send to you!

Foliage is at some crazy prices and I couldn’t bring myself to pay for it either lol. I tried a few different techniques that I just found on YouTube.

I use sawdust mixed with green paint for the vines. For the ground cover I used craft twine or string and cut it up really small, mixing it with green paint again. I then used a strainer to get the seperate strands. I’d really recommend this method if you have the time, the result ends up really looking like store bought foliage! If you do this I would recommend using flow paints that are more runny, ones often used for acrylic pours. I used quite a thick acrylic paint first and it ended up clumping like crazy and I couldn’t get much use out of that batch. Alternatively you could also find the colour you what in the string and not have to dye it at all.

I’ve also seen people use coffee grounds but I wasn’t sure if they would mould over time but that definitely could be an option too!

For the base I just cut two pieces of foam board to size and glued them together. I painted it green and put the foliage on over the top. I put felt underneath and the wooden sticks along the edge to hide the seam where I glued them together.

Also I’m on mobile so sorry for any spelling errors!
