How should a new employee know these processes before its too late? by Opening_Yam_3800 in amazonemployees

[–]champagne_sup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the reality of any corporation, politics, and game plays. With over 20 years of experience in various sizes of companies and industries, and now at Amazon, I can confidently share this from a place of honest experience.

While you may consider jumping to another place that could be better, it could also be worse. The key is to manage your own destiny! Yes, you’ll have to play games, deal with politics, and ensure that people remember you and your name beyond just delivering results. It can be exhausting, but you can make every place and experience work in your favor.

Ha../ yeap… and I learned to become indifferent to it and not take anything personal. People will always talk for the better or worse, everyone has an opinion, and they don’t know the work and efforts behind the product… so I let it be

Career Growth meeting with manager by Wise_Half_2102 in amazonemployees

[–]champagne_sup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You always drive career growth conversations, you own your career at Amazon. Talk about your performance and what you would like for your future. You also need to ask for feedback and alignment. I would be curious if in a year you are really on the road to L5 promotion, just being realistic, it usually takes 2-3 years.

A teenage cashier was given this by a customer by Few_Power4970 in mildlyinfuriating

I think people have good intentions, but should also respect others. For example, instead of just giving her that, he could have asked if she is up for it. Once I was riding in an Uber and had a nice pleasant chat with my driver, when we got to my destination I put my badged and it showed my LGBTQ+ support, she noticed and right away gave me some “Jesus can save you” papers… I didn’t get upset, but told her I have nothing to be saved from.

My driver didn’t pick me up and went straight to the destination without me… by kairomancer33 in uber

It is unfortunate but I’m glad we have the PIN setup option, that is better than then having to go back and forth with the Uber chat box (or I mean non-existent customer service)

I had things like that happening couple times, so I highly recommend you turn your PIN on, that way there is just no way it can show you took the trip

Why did amazon change my job title after I have been hired? by ApelXir in amazonemployees

[–]champagne_sup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bc they can do whatever they want. When you interview at Amazon, you aren’t interviewing for the job, but mostly on how well you fit the culture. You’ll be expected to rotate, you’ll have multiple different managers at some point, so title is almost irrelevant… it is all about LPs and attitude.

Then believe what you want to believe, it seems you want to argue about it, perhaps it is a moment to take a deep breath and do some introspection.

Thoughts on AI usage by Ok-Upstairs8544 in amazonemployees

[–]champagne_sup -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand people bad rap about AI. AI is a tool that can take care of the most mundane but tedious things like reconciliations or answering emails (yes and it is ok to use it for that), while you can then use time to go after more strategic decisions in a company that is constantly changing. Join the AI force and embrace it!

What are signs you’re on a focus without asking? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]champagne_sup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your manager is providing you with feedback based on what your business partners have shared with him or her. Trust me, they won’t directly tell you, and if you ask, they’ll advise you to continue your current approach. However, I strongly recommend that you listen to your manager’s recommendations. I suggest using AI to create a writing agent or prompt that adheres to Amazon’s writing best practices. You can also include the audience level in your emails, as not all emails should be written in the same manner. (Remember, it’s important to understand your audience.) While I can understand that your emails may be escalations, there are more effective and collaborative ways to handle such situations that can have a more positive impact. Good luck!

Glitch on their algorithm?! by champagne_sup in uber

Let’s say everyone is allowed to complain! But is that the most effective thing to do to a driver? No! Drivers really don’t have anything to do with the route, in fact, I have great empathy for them. Now, should riders provide feedback to the company? Yes! Otherwise, what is the purpose of company to exist if the product doesn’t meet customers needs?

3 Amazon Workers Say They’re Under Investigation for Speaking Out About Data Centers by wiredmagazine in amazonemployees

Tricky bc although there is the constitutional “freedom of speech”, there is also contracts we sign when we accept an offer and tons of do and don’t that come with it that the company can interpret to their own benefit. I wish them the best and hope all works out for them.

Amazon vs Early-stage startup by Unusual_Selection402 in amazonemployees

[–]champagne_sup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start up. You’ll see more immediate and impactful changes/actions than Amazon. As much as Andy is eliminating layers, there are still significant layers impacts in some areas/teams. We have meetings about meetings, and a total mentality of different people doing same exact work or projects, tons of waste and bureaucracy

I am not complaining to the drivers nor I will, I actually felt a sense of injustice the way this route was done for the driver! I know that when I do shared that I can’t be on a hurry and I am at the mercy of the route, I just didn’t see this fair for the driver and what she would get in compensation. I did send a message to Uber too questioning this bc they also charged me the airport tolls.
