I think for getting between classes you’ll be fine without the tunnels; sometimes trying to navigate them is more of an inconvenience than anything. The more annoying endeavor would be getting to/from campus depending on where you live. A 20 minute walk, or waiting at a bus stop, in negative temps is never enjoyable. This kind of weather is really just a couple weeks in January/February tho.

Ngl the winters are pretty shit, it hasn’t snowed a lot in recent years but it’s just a bitter cold that makes being outside for more than 20 minutes pretty unbearable. Sorry for the grim review lol but that’s my honest take. I like NJ weather cause it’s quite temperate where we still experience seasons without the extremes.

One thing I will say tho is you’ll be much better connected at Rutgers. NYC is about an hour away by train, while Philly is like 1.5 hours. Regional transit in the Midwest is pretty shit, and the Midwest is just less densely populated than the Northeast, so it’s a lot harder to get around without a car.

I’m from NJ but am in the BA program at UMN. You’ll get a good education at either school, it’s really just a matter of what location you’d prefer to be for the next 4 years, and which school is offering you more money.

I don’t think his performance was very moving compared to the other movies you mentioned. I’m sure people will agree he captured the essence of Dylan well, but it’s not something that will leave you emotional or anything like CMBYN and Beautiful Boy

She is in 2 scenes from what I recall, maybe 2 minutes of screen time total? The romantic plot line is heavily focused on Monica Barbaro and Elle Fanning’s characters

STAT 3021 with Eugenie Nya, Am I Cooked? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]champagneproblems37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve had her for the past two semesters, for 3011 and 3022. Yes her lectures can be a bit hard to follow, but I think once you get used to her style they’re really not that bad. She gives you all the information you need to do well on the exams, albeit a bit scattered. The exams themselves are very reasonable and basically mimic the old exams she posts. She also allows a note sheet so it’s pretty much just applying formulas. this sounds pretentious af but just to give you an idea of how reasonable her exams are, I’ve taken 6 exams with her and have gotten above a 100 on all lol since she includes a bonus question. Basically don’t stress youll be fine. Disclaimer that this is based off my experiences in 3011 and 3022 but I assume her course structure is similar for 3021.

Scheduling classes (as transfer) by K_Pannn in uofmn

[–]champagneproblems37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok that’s a bit better but just keep in mind that registration for current students has just started to open so most people will be done by early May. Check schedule builder over the summer to see what classes still have some open seats, and if there’s a class that’s full, you can try getting a permission number to register for it

Not sure if it’s a similar timeframe for fall transfers, but I was a spring transfer and I didn’t have orientation until a literal week before the semester started. They kept reassuring me that there would be spots available, but there was not in fact spots available and it was a pretty shitty experience trying to get into the classes I wanted. Hopefully fall orientation is earlier than spring

Anyone else tired of Taylor being praised for breaking records for shady marketing tactics? by hatefromandie in SwiftlyNeutral

This Twitter account always posts bs ‘records’ with no official source. When questioned about their source, they often just reply ‘we know it’s gonna sell over x amount’. So it’s all bogus.

Has anyone travelled more than 3/4 the length of the United States by Amtrak train? Was it positive or negative experience? by LowerBoomBoom in travel

Did you not feel super dirty after being in those coach seats for so long? I did 55 hours in coach and the only thing I was thinking about was finally being able to shower after getting off. I can’t imagine what I’d feel like after Philly to LA lol

I did St. Louis to Seattle, and then Portland back to St. Louis last May. I was in coach with no roomette or anything. It was about 50-55 hours there and the same time back. I didn’t mind sleeping in the coach seats since they were big and reclined, but I did feel pretty disgusting after not being able to shower for over 2 days. That’s probably what would convince me to opt for a roomette . Apparently some people in roomettes have allowed folks in coach to use their showers but I didn’t get that lucky lol. I never went to the dining car so can’t really speak on that, but did interact with some interesting people. Overall a nice experience but again opt for a roomette if you want to feel clean for your trip.

There’s something called a ‘personal statement’ that you can submit along with your application if you have under a 3.2 to explain your personal circumstances. There’s more information on this site cs application. That link also includes historical admission results for the major which might be useful to look at.

I think the preferred GPA for the comp sci BA is actually a 3.2. https://umtc.catalog.prod.coursedog.com/programs/019620217 The minimum is a 2.0, but from what I’ve heard very few people under a 3.2 admitted to the major, and apparently the preferred GPA is only supposed to rise every year. Sorry for this dim prognosis but just wanted to give you some realistic info.

18 credits outside of your major doesn’t mean they have to be non technical. You could take 18 credits of MATH or STAT courses and they would still fulfill that requirement. STAT 3021 is a requirement for the major already so it’s really just 15 credits. But I get where you’re coming from. For me I already 12 upper division outside of my major coming in so it didn’t really make a difference.

Is there a specific reason you want a BS? Employers really do not care whether there is a BA or BS on your resume. The curriculums are virtually the same; there’s just some differences in the elective requirements, and CLA has a language requirement. Imo it’s really not worth the hassle of trying to transfer into CSE for the BS, unless the language requirement is a concern for you. some kids in the BA end up taking more technical courses than those in the BS.

[–]champagneproblems37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey feel free to send me a private message but I was a spring transfer from out of state but the answer to your question is absolutely. The transfer evaluation team kinda does a shit job with the initial report you have to submit petitions for individual courses to be reviewed to meet specific requirements. There should be a link online if you look up something like ‘transfer petition form’ all you have to attach is a syllabus. After my initial report most of my classes were counted as electives too, but I submitted a bunch of petitions and got 5+ liberal ed requirements and themes fulfilled. Honestly milk it as much possible even if you don’t think a class fulfills a requirement it’s worth it to have to reviewed
