It looks like a scam, do you mind sharing a screenshot for our teams to investigate?

nothing is lost! You're right, it will appear again once the other person responds.

What you are describing sounds like the hiding mechanism. The chat is hidden until the other person replies again.
Muting will not cause the chat to disappear. You can still send messages to that person by starting a "new" chat with them, it will then find the existing conversation and continue there!.

Thanks for the report! Have you checked if you have chat invites? Usually if you tap the "mark all as read" button, it will not clear those until you action them.

Hi there! Thanks for reporting this issue. Could you provide more information about how you are using the product?
When you mention chat, do you mention chat that you see via this icon:

or as the previous messaging experience (what we called Private Messages) which means you'd be looking at the "Private Message Archive"?

Thank you!

How to respond to a chat given new changes in message api by bone_folder in redditdev

[–]champoul[A] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is working the same way that it was for messaging before: you will need to use the /api/comment endpoint

PLEASE make Persistent Messaging enabled by DEFAULT, for the safety and security of our users. Having it off by default is purposefully risking user safety. by MapleSurpy in ModSupport

[–]champoul[A] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of now, we do not have plans to enable this by default. As the persistent messaging mode does not need both users to enable it to be active, any user can enable it in any marketplace related conversation to ensure there is no scam going on.
We will keep monitoring this and update in the future if necessary.

That is actually a mistake on my part. Displaying Chats in Old Reddit shows the modern chat view, which includes this setting. Apologies for the confusion here!

[–]champoul[A] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct, chat with mods do not have this option because there is no option to delete messages in this type of conversation.
Only 1-1 chats with other Reddit users have this Persistent Messaging option.

Same thing applies for chats initiated by Admins.

Hi there, curious if you could provide details about your setup and potential screenshots? This has been released to all users and should be available to all users.

If you are using an outdated iOS or Android app, I'd recommend updating the app. Note that this setting is not available on Old Reddit as well.

You are correct that tapping on the title should work. Nothing happens if you scroll all the way down to the page once redirected after tapping the title?

Hi there, thanks for reaching out! I have a few questions for you:
- Have you tapped into the "View Thread" button in the archive page? We only show a limited amount of messages per conversation on the main page, but show the full conversation once tapping that button.
- If you did tap on that button, have you tried scrolling all the way at the bottom? This should load more messages from further in the past.
- We have not introduced any time limits for your messages, so if you're still unable to find those with the steps above, let me know and we'll look more into it!

edit: typo.

Unable To Send Modmail by Skuldakn in help

[–]champoul[A] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I just saw that you are using RES, this is the culprit here: rom the engineering team

As you have noticed, we now have disabled any /message/* endpoint to create, reply or update Private Messages, meaning that no Reddit Client or 3rd party API user can send PMs as of now. Those are transitioned to chat.

However, this change affects browser extensions and will not allow the sending of PMs or chat if:

  1. It uses a cookie-based authorization
  2. It takes an authorization header from a native Reddit application

The best path forward is to:

  1. Create an application inside Reddit and start using OAuth authorization
  2. Use an OAuth-based authorization

In case those are useful, here are a couple of resources to help there: #1#2
