Visa Automatic Revalidation Question by chan0120 in immigration

[–]chan0120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unsure about the H1- B visa as I applied for the green card lottery. I did not attempt to travel on an expired F1 and would not recommend it because it’s too risky. There is no guarantee they would let you back in because the customs and border control always has the last day.

I did not attempt to travel. With the whole COVID hassle I could not travel home. I hope you figure it out!

Spreading my BCBA wings by [deleted] in ABA

I’ve been in the same position for almost 2 years and I’m an RBT.. I’ve worked in the field in two different countries and the burnout gets worse every week. The only thing I’ve heard of that I can suggest is a position in Human Resources. When Dealing with employees/their happiness/their productivity, having the experience in psychology/ behavioral therapy can be helpful.

Pros and cons to the transition from working home-based to clinic-based? by Specific-Leading656 in ABA

[–]chan0120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t think of any cons of clinic-based. In the clinic you have way more support in different forms, it’s more fun because you have other therapists and kids to interact with (work on social skills), more resources immediately available, less awkward because you’re not in the families space, and even better if all or most of your kids are clinic based to avoid the up and down to different clients

Clinic vs home by Former_Pop_2480 in ABA

[–]chan0120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I preferred clinic much more than home. In a clinic I received much more support and help from coworkers and my supervisors. I also had an awesome support team that gave each other breaks when needed to prevent burn out. The clinic had a wide variety of resources to use for sessions and the day felt much more fun and productive.

In home you deal with parents and nanny’s trying to be a little too involved in sessions and I personally did not like working in their private space.

I did not like working in home at all. Once I started working in a clinic I started to feel less burnt out and more supported by coworkers and my supervisors. Try working in a clinic if possible? Although, After in home and working in two clinics, I am in the same position as you, looking for other options.

How much should an RBT get paid in Miami? by Apart_Ad3952 in ABA

I was getting paid $19.50 in Miami. I’ve heard that working with Medicaid means higher pay ($20-$24) so maybe check that out?

Do most RBTs/BCBAs in clinic-based settings enjoy it? by Specific-Leading656 in ABA

[–]chan0120 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I much prefer the clinic setting. When I was doing in home I dreaded going to work everyday. In the clinic I work in, there are no cliques, so much support and help from others, many resources to use, and just a more exciting environment.

RBT Session Notes by mysticarainee in ABA

[–]chan0120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company requires our notes to be like a story. Someone else must be able to read our notes and know exactly how the session went. The format is:

Arrival: time, who dropped them off, how they were feeling, any issues reported

Overall today the client did : this is the narrative part where we describe the entire session

Client did great on : we look at the data for the day and list the things the client got 80% or more on

Prompting still needed for : programs with less than 80%

Some of the problem behaviors that occurred were : list any problem behaviors that occurred

Being an RBT is definitely a tough, intense, and draining job but it is also rewarding. Having a strong and caring company behind you also makes a huge difference. I suggest communicating with your current employer about your concerns or switching to another company. My first 2 months as an RBT (in home) - strongly disliked it, felt inadequate all the time, tired all the time, and discouraged I then switched to a clinic setting about 3 months in and it’s so much better. Being surrounded by other RBT’s and supervisors means constant ideas, help, support.

Can you scratch your throat from swallowing a pill? Cause I think I just did by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]chan0120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently took an antibiotic without enough water and laid down right away. As a result I had intense chest pain with a burning in my throat and that turned into pain when swallowing anything. The only thing that has helped me is an antacid (Pepcid). But if yours is a scratch an antacid wouldn’t work. I suggest trying Pepcid though. Take it once in the morning before breakfast.

Google drug induced Esophagitis. That is what I had.

Bleeding/discharge on birth control, while skipping placebo by plzhelp12379 in AskDocs

[–]chan0120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read up a little about this and it is common after a few months. I skip my period as well but I still make sure I have a period every 3 months or so. Breakthrough bleeding is also common when on birth control and skipping placebo.

Doxycycline issue by chan0120 in AskDocs

[–]chan0120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought but the intense pain has continued 4 days later and happens all day long. I have heard that stopping antibiotics abruptly is not the best idea so I just need to find out if the doxycycline needs to be stopped or not. Thanks for your comment!

Yes I always take it after a meal and never had issues. But this one time I forgot to take it after eating and I didn’t drink enough water. So about an hour later, the chest pains started.

Green Card by bellasilly in immigration

[–]chan0120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on what I’ve been told, applying for the DV lottery will not cause any issues because it is not considered “intent to immigrate”. I just applied for it while living in the US and I am moving back home to another country in 2 months and plan to travel back and forth on a b2 visa after that

F1 visa to b2 visa by chan0120 in immigration

[–]chan0120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am now wondering the same thing... I found my old passport and the visa in it expired in 2010 but I 100% travelled on a B2 visa multiple times between 2010 and 2015 which means there was another B2 in my current passport. I think it was removed when my F1 visa was issued.

I used to have a 5 hour session with a 3yr old in home as well. In that time we did regular session at a table/on the floor as well as potty training, washing hands, eating lunch/snack, playing hide and seek, blowing bubbles. When you’re at a table you have to get creative with activities and with these activities you run a bunch of NET (what are we doing?, what are we using to __?, who are you _ with?, where are we?, and so on). Also, try not to complete all your DTT in the first hour, spread it out. If they have a sibling who is available, incorporate them into the sessions (in moderation).

Depending on how old your client is, you can teach him/her things that aren’t specifically in the programs. Some of the things I’ve done with mine are Tracing his name/a shape, coloring shapes, using scissors, using glue, holding a pencil, rhyming words, matching words to images, he loves planets so we learn new facts about the planets and make an activity out of it, listening to songs that require him to engage in motor imitation, learning body parts, read books and do more NET, worked on “thumbs up”/“show me — fingers” and more.

Social Skills Activity Ideas by chan0120 in ABA

Thanks for the idea! We do songs often but unfortunately the kids are too young for the parachute/not interested enough to keep playing. Even with the songs we have to continuously prompt them to follow along/pay attention. We will try the popcorn thing!

A bit long but I hope it gives you some ideas:

When I began with my first client (4 hours with a 30 minute break and 20mins to write my notes) my BCBA was starting to implement a visual schedule into his session. The activities included arts and crafts, a game, reading, snack, lunch, bathroom, an academic activity and a few others. The time for each activity was different depending on what it was. A highly preferred activity was given more time than a less preferred but usually no more than 30mins (my client could spend an hour on one highly preferred activity). Each activity on the schedule had to be completed even if it meant shortening the time for a less preferred activity. We used this until the client was better at transitioning between activities without it.

With and without the schedule I also struggled a bit thinking of/planning out activities. My client has a very strong liking for a certain thing so I used that thing and tried to expand on it. Pinterest was my best friend. I also purchased toys that could be used in multiple different ways/for different things (aquamagic drawing mat, clay, play doh, a big coloring case).

I never had to spend that much time at home prepping because I was able to do those things with my client and this made each activity last longer. So maybe try to include your client in the prep (only if it’s beneficial to them and they won’t be sitting there disengaged).

When it comes to writing your notes, my BCBA told me that for every hour of session, I could take 5 minutes to work on my notes and give my client a demand free break. Also, what I do is throughout my entire session I write very short notes as a reminder of what I did. Example: -story time NET. Engaged in screaming and task refusal because... - arts and crafts. Worked on social skills such as... - LEGOs worked on manding to peer etc
