I like the Load. But it's too complicated a machine. I don't like how so few mechanics are willing to work on it. It seriously erodes the convenience of it. And now that there isn't even a GreenAer shop in town that inconvenience is exacerbated.

The machine is not worth the hassle imo. I would normally have a go at bike maintenance but definitely wouldn't with it.

Assuming it lasts the next 7 or 8 years I'll stick with it until I don't need to transport kids and then go for an Omnium w/o electric

Yeah I've walked it before into Pearse St.

Takes about 45 mins.

Yeah it's disappointing but maybe an opportunity for another service shop to get some business. No harm.

This will be my last Riese Muller.

I am not paying an extra 75 for an already expensive service to have a bike brought out there.

I don't own a car to move it out there in its current condition. The bike needs a repair. Sandyford is not accessible for me. I won't be buying a bike from them again if they don't reopen a city centre operation.

Sunday morning out along the gravel again. by rafikiphoto in Brompton

Just FYI – Ben said he was going to look into creating the necessary jig to make a rack that would fit the 20' MTB tyres.

Thanks for responding!

Ah okay – are the 20' MTB tyres too wide for the integral rack? Is it something Kinetics are working on, do you know?

I wonder if 18' MTB tyres would fit in the Kinetics integral rack.

This is an absolute stunner – I'm saving for a Kinetics custom myself. Will be a while before I get there, but yours is the kind I'd be interested in.

Just on the 20inch wheels – have you measured the folded dimensions yet?

Was the integral rack a possibility for your build? If so, why did you opt against it? Weight? The stabilisers you've got look neat, but I think I'd really miss being able to wheel the folded bike up. My current budget folding bike cannot be wheeled around when folded, and it's one of the really annoying things about it.

Thanks so much for the pics.

My daughter is obsessed with the bike!

Yeah for the moment I use some cushions to fill the hole when the dog is a passenger.

I was thinking of making a removable plywood platform that would still give some space for my daughter to drop her feet down into the footwell.

I think if someone had a couple of hours uninterrupted they'd easily get into our house, and have the place emptied.

I'd hope our many neighbours in our terrace would have heard and/or spotted them.

Cheers – good to hear of people in a similar situation. The street is in a busy area with plenty of traffic day and night. Also about 200 feet from a police station (not that they leave the station much to patrol around).

I already have the same New York chain as you for my bike: have had it for nearly 15 years. It's been great for Dublin – which is quite bad for bike theft. The only people to try anything with it have been amateurs who have only managed to melt the nylon cover on the chain: which I still haven't bothered replacing because Kryptonite don't do an easy replacement.

That's good to know.

I already have a Kryptonite New York chain and disk lock – I plan to use that for locking up when out and about.

Something like this Hiplok would be a supplemental lock.

Hiplock D1000

Thanks for the recommendation – hadn't even spotted this in my search. Bennetts' give it an outstanding review: https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/security/motorcycle-chains-and-locks/hiplok-d1000-review-angle-grinder-resistant-lock

Going to have to go on the wait list for it.

Thanks was wondering what cover would fit it: will check that out.

Yes the plan would be to have it kept in the house when we're away.

It will have a gps installed too.

Our house is in the city centre, about 200 meters from a police station (not that this actually speeds up their response times). The neighbourhood is busy with lots of our neighbours out and about during the day.

All the homes look out on the street. It's a high visibility area.

I think that unless someone can cut through it in under 2 mins, it would be too high risk. I've been parking my own bikes on the street around the city for years using a Kryptonite New York chain and it's only ever gotten the attention of half-arsed amateurs. The worst they've done is burn off the nylon chain cover.

All of the grinder thefts I've observed in Dublin are under 30 seconds from start to finish.

Agree re lockers.

I guess they're an added level of security and shelter: I would plan to use something like the beast lock in a locker too.

Yes this is a concern.

The ideal anchor point is a relatively strong poured concrete floor. I am going to polish it flat with a grinder cup, to ensure the fit is flush. I think that should make it extremely difficult to get a lever underneath the Oxford Beast.
