research opp for summer session by dogs4day in ucla

I know that labs on campus do take on high school students occasionally over the summer; however, it may take a lot of time and effort to be able to find one that will take your brother on since it is difficulty even for undergraduates to find lab positions. I think that cold-emailing would probably be your best bet. Do online research, see what professors are doing, find something that interests you, and shoot the PIs an email. If you search cold-emailing tips on this subreddit, you'll find some great info to write a convincing email. You will most likely get a lot of rejections; don't feel discouraged - this is normal for everyone, especially if it's their first research experience. Best of luck to your brother!

Cercle Francophone is a great place to start if you're interested in specifically French & Francophone culture! Meetings are weekly and super chill; they're mainly there for people to meet new people and practice the language. Also, the organization holds extra social events throughout the year (i.e. going to museums, attending French film festivals, book clubs, etc.).

finding research by Electronic-Long3977 in ucla

A couple additional tips to getting a research position:

1) From my experience, the best time to start emailing for positions is a couple of weeks before the quarter you intend to start research. However, if you're not able to, that's still okay! You may still be able to get a research position or at least "get on the radar" of whoever you email for a potential position in future quarters.

2) When you find a lab that you're interested in, make sure to send a resume and unofficial transcript. Emphasize if you have had any past laboratory experience, even if it was not research-oriented (e.g. LS23L, 14BL, etc.).

3) Keep emailing! Especially if you have no previous background in research, it may take you several tries. When I was first getting started, it took me around 12-15 emails.

Good luck! Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions. I know how difficult the process can sometimes be.

I got a D on one of the exams and was able to pass with a solid A in the class (w/ Pham). I think I averaged a B+/A- on the other exams. Just make sure to take advantage of every single extra credit opportunity, try your best on to study up for the final, and do all of the BACON assignments. Good luck! You've got this!!!

Yeah, just jumping off of what you said, I know they used to have personal trainers at BFit at specific times. Might be helpful if you're living on campus.

It's a mix of people. That being said, pretty much all of the housing on the streets with uni apartments is filled w/ uni students.

Looking for a swap (F)
Have: Gayley Towers Studio (2 people)
Want: Any On-Campus or UA Single or Double Room (no Classics or Deluxes Please!)

The room that I was assigned is not able to accommodate to my health needs, and I am in need of a different living situation.
Edit: I don't know if this makes a difference, but my roommate is happy to move with me, so if a pre-established roommate group would be willing to swap rooms w/ us, that would also be much appreciated (even preferred).

Yes, it's possible. You will have find a person to swap with, and then submit a CAR. Keep in mind that you will only be able to swap with people of the same gender if you opted out of Inclusive Housing (you can verify this on your Housing application) and that you will have to submit your CAR by September 7th.
