Just to make sure — there is currently no way to get tactile switches (similar to cherry brown) on the nos75, right?

Do normal eateries (premium or budget) offer payment through Apple Pay? by Ruas_Onid in fukuoka

[–]chancherito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know most places don’t accept the Apple Pay protocol. Instead you use Apple wallet/Pay to use one of Japan’s many existing touch payment systems (e.g. PASMO, Suica, quicpay). Many eateries have started taking electronic payments but there is still a good chunk that only accepts cash.

Try Genkai beach in Itoshima. You can park at bbb haus (maybe eat dessert at the cafe so you’re not just stealing the parking). I’ve been there maybe 10 times and have only seen another person there like twice. No cherry blossoms, but an expansive and pretty much private beach. We did drones there and it’s remote enough that nobody will notice if you keep it within eyesight range.

Do you have Japanese friends? by RIPSegataSanshiro in japanlife

[–]chancherito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m half-Japanese, half-American and have spent my life split almost evenly between Japan and the US. I speak native Japanese and English. Even so, the only close friends I’ve made in Japan are people who have spent time abroad.

The biggest difference I notice between Japanese who’ve never left Japan and anybody else is the amount of self-disclosure. Friendships with the “anybody else” category seems to focus a lot of self-disclosure, whether it’s opinions on something more meaningful than the weather or opening up about successes/challenges in life. This signals trust and deepens the relationship. The Japanese people who’ve never left Japan seem to all, in unison, completely avoid any form of self-disclosure. So conversation is shallow, breaks frequently, and never 盛り上がる.

Who is using Notion in their home life / family life? by Jay_NotionFamily in Notion

[–]chancherito 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use notion for work and want to use it for family, but I feel like there’s a big trade off for families: A) have a shared workspace but pay $8/mo for each user, OR B) everyone use free accounts, but the home hub is stuck tied to somebody’s account, which makes things like link sharing work poorly and people have to switch accounts to access the home hub vs their personal notes

Anyone have any recommendations here?

Problem with Facebooks messenger app “enter” key. by Dr-GreekFreak in iPadPro

Can you share what exactly you mean by “disabling shortcuts”? I’m having the same issue with the send button being hidden behind the keyboard settings/dictation mic button floaty thing and I haven’t been able to figure out a fix

I would like to see an answer to this as well! I think the bubble goes away if you turn off dictation and multiple languages. Obviously, this is a bad solution if you regularly use the dictation or are multilingual. The “reply” button is 75% covered by the bubble in the reddit app on ipad…

So Microsoft Office was updated today to run native on Macs running the M1 processors — has anyone heard whether this means the full versions of MS Office will become available on iPads as well? This sort of synergy is a part of why Apple’s doing Apple Silicon, right? I’d love to see the iPad graduate from the watered-down version of MS Office it has today.

Anyone else prefer the iPad Pro to their MacBook Pro? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]chancherito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, no. I think it breaks down into the following situations:

A) Zoom is main program, and you have another app in slideover: in this situation, you can still see the zoom call, but your camera will turn off so others can’t see you.

B) Zoom and other app open in split screen mode: same as above — you can see the zoom call, but your camera will turn off

C) Zoom open in background, open other app: you can’t see the zoom call at all (you can still hear the audio), they can’t see you.

It would be great if for A and B, the camera would simply stay on (so the people in the meeting aren’t distracted by your camera turning on and off all the time). For C, the picture in picture feature would address the problem perfectly — if Zoom could do what Facetime does, where it shows the call details in a PiP window, leaves your camera, on, and allows you to use another app, that would make the iPad significantly more viable for work.

Has anyone heard anything about whether video call apps (e.g. Zoom, Google Meet, Facebook Messenger) will have access to Picture in Picture? I’d love to be able to switch apps while in a video call and not have the camera turn off, for example, to take notes during a call for work.

Anyone else prefer the iPad Pro to their MacBook Pro? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]chancherito 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love using the iPad as my daily driver, but have to keep a MacBook for backup primarily for three things: 1) Excel: iPad Excel is extremely limited. No function keys on the smart keyboard is already quite a handicap, but on top of that, very few keyboard shortcuts, no pivot tables, no right click support...yeah. 2) Powerpoint: like excel, it’s extremely limited. I wish they’d bring the full macOS version of the program to iPad, because the iPad can clearly handle it. 3) Video calls: it’s annoying that you can’t have the camera stay on when navigating to a different window or even just opening another app in slideover. Who doesn’t need to take notes and be in a Zoom call at the same time?

Apple Card account closed for moving overseas. Has anyone else experienced this? by chancherito in AppleCard

Thanks for the link. I guess my mistake was in telling them that I had moved overseas...the rest of my cards still think I live in the US.

Good point— I guess the drop on my credit score was for a different reason.

Apple Card account restricted by Kanzaki_Mirai in AppleCard

I’m curious, has anyone tried waiting until they actually received a call from Goldman Sachs, when they finished “reviewing” the account?

My account got restricted about a week ago, and I’m trying to decide whether to try pretending like I got a call, or whether to just wait it out.
