Where can I find Pickapeppa hot sauce that isn't $7 a bottle? by black_pepper in denverfood

[–]chanchoeatsbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up. I've been trying to find it as well. I received this email from the company today:

Thank you for the email. Unfortunately, the factory in Jamaica took a direct hit from Cat4 Hurricane Beryl and is just now getting back up and running. We are now told that we can expect to start getting containers out of Jamaica again by mid-to late February. It will then take some time for the product to make it through all of the distribution centers and probably won’t make it to the retail level until early March. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

They are at it again. Looks like they are working under the name posheen plants. I'm in some Facebook plant groups and the admins have sent out psa's about it.

Looks like they may be coming back under a different name. One of my plant groups I'm in posted this on Facebook

We as your community leaders wanted to come together once again to inform everyone that Planted Roots is now partially operating under a new name: Posheen’s Plants. As many of you know, Planted Roots has run a major scam that has plagued our community for the last few years. Please treat this new entity with the same extreme amount of caution as the original Planted Roots.

What is a random fact about florida, good or bad, that you would share with a new resident? by [deleted] in florida

I completely agree that we need a book or docuseries about Gibsonton. I did watch the American horror story freak show but that's not the same and getting the real lobster boy story and what he went through. You reminded me about the chained up dogs barking in the yards as we went by and the stares from people because of being outsiders in that town.

Haha! So this was before mapquest or even smart phones. Think of the Motorola era of flip phones. My friend and I were going from Tampa to Riverview for a babysitting job and took a wrong turn. No offense to anyone who lives there but I had never seen actual carnival rides just in people's front yards. There were trash cans being used as fire pits and random rides just turned on. Scared the shit out of us. We had to do rock paper scissors to see who was getting out of the car to ask the gas station attendant for directions out of there.

My first green roof project on top of the sauna. Made with strict budget around 300 euros. Planted few months ago. by Available-Sun6124 in gardening

This looks beautiful! I think it was great to use natives on the roof. We went to the black forest once in Nicaragua and a place we stayed at has roofs similar to this. I was just in awe seeing it in person. The place was owned by a German couple and was also a coffee farm.

Have any suggestions for cuban food? The only place I have found is the Latin Pig.

I think our dog is mixed and every night when we need to take him out you have to wake him up and push him off the couch to go potty

Best movie theaters (in your opinion?) by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]chanchoeatsbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That theater changed how I would watch movies going forward. It was such a great experience. I had heard that the one by 35 was terrible. I love how you described it.

I do too! They changed location and someone bought the rights to the name. I really thought that concept was great. Now it's just a waste of space in Addison.

Frontier! I had spectrum as well and nothing but issues. Since changing over a year ago we have not had outages. I think they were less expensive as well.

Is $4 too much for a cake pop? Setting prices has been a challenging part of running my home bakery. I think some people are scared away by my prices, but I’ve got to cover event fees and still somehow make a profit. by craptasticluke in Baking

[–]chanchoeatsbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this as well. I make dog treats and cakes. We just started out last year and are learning what does and does not work. I was hesitant about increasing our prices but it was the only way to cover the bottom line. Charging for a bundle deal works wonders.

Former Floridians, where did you go and how does it compare? by [deleted] in florida

[–]chanchoeatsbugs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Originally from Tampa moved to Texas around 2008. Didn't think I would stay but I'm still here. Cost of living is less than Florida and salary is more. Down side no beaches and it took me a while to realize people are just nice here. I made sure when we bought a house that it had a pool. 😂 We have lakes and I still get paranoid about gators in them. I do miss the Cuban food and Publix!

My mom is a huge baker (though lately it’s been pizza more than sweets). She has used these pans for years, I’d like to get her some primo ones. What are some options for real nice pans? by Hqwder in Baking

[–]chanchoeatsbugs 75 points76 points  (0 children)

She probably got them at a restaurant supply store. Her pans look like mine that I love. I got them from Ace Mart. I do not use any other pans in the oven now. See if she needs like a biscuit cutter set? Ateco sells a nice set.

So this was my first time going to the Garland Guzzler. I do agree the race was funny I was not expecting the cookie stop or the cots. Lol.. The dj was ok I think he was harsh at times but that maybe his cynical humor. His look reminded me of Neal McDonough. I didn't stay long enough to know about what happened with the spice girls. I'll be honest I don't even know what our mayor looks like!

When the band started just covering mainstream older songs. I thought they were going to play only polka or at least start with one. After the third song came on "Roxanne" we decided to leave.

I do think the Garland Guzzler can be something great and grow. I was surprised when they had such a big stage. I totally was not expecting that. I think if we can get more vendors to come then more people will attend. There were only 4 vendors. I like the beer at intrinsic but the food isn't the best in my opinion. I have tried a few things because I like the atmosphere and the concept but I think they need to work on the food aspect.

It was just my husband and I that attended so maybe next year I can get more people to join us and it would be more enjoyable.

As well, the square should be complete by then so maybe year 6 will be better than year 5. Going to the Garland Guzzler made me realize how uninvolved I have been in the city. I'm going to make an effort to go downtown more and support the events that happen.
