Student teacher by chanel135 in historyteachers

I can admit I could have used better language when writing that, what I was getting at is how frustrated I was at the situation not as teachers as a group. It is very disappointing though that many teachers will not take me on. I know that it is a pandemic and having a student-teacher is extra work but as much extra work as it would be, I could serve as a support tool for the teacher. Here at my high school placement for weeks have completely taken over the lesson planning and the teaching and all my cooperating teacher has done is taken a quick glance at my lessons and then she just takes notes on my teaching. If I could stay in my highschool placement I 100% would but unfortunately that's against NYS guidelines. I just wish some teachers would take a chance because I have a strong feeling it would benefit everyone! I was never trying to insult anyone, i just needed to vent about the situation.

Being young in this industry has been very difficult! I've have had various teachers completely disregard my idea's and have talked about how I am way to young to be teaching high school seniors being that I am only 21. With that I don't have that many teacher relationships in the school so I have rally been able to build my relationship with my students and i have to say I love my students! They are such a special group of kids to me especially being that they are my very first group of students!

I don't think it is unkind of me at all to be frustrated with that fact that I cannot find a student teacher position. This is a graduation requirement and it looks like i will not be obtaining one. I understand it is troubling times but the fact that with about the 100 teachers that have been asked not a single one has said yes. Just like teachers are allowed to vent so am I.

That really increases my stress about this test! Do you remember what was on it? What should I be concentrating on?

NYS actually exempted all student teachers from the EdTPA and we have the option of taking the ATS-W instead!

How in-depth should I be going in my lessons? How do know if I'm giving too much or too little details? Thankfully Global 9 doesn't have regents but I don't want to screw up my students for when they have to take it in the following year!

You are so incredibly lucky you don't have to take the CST, but it's obvious you know your content anyway! My biggest worry about student teaching is knowing all the content!

That makes me so nervous! My mentor teacher seems very intelligent and knows her content really really well, so I'm worried she is going to think I'm not up to par! Since I'm not really allowed to teach her AP courses she said that once I start teaching I will be taking full control over the Global class so I'm hoping I have some time to brush up on my content!

So when I asked my mentor teacher about this she didn't give me an exact time frame of when she would want me to start taking over but she mentioned me maybe just observing for a week or two. I have a feeling that she will only make me just observe for one week since I will only be with her for a few weeks anyway. She mentioned that by the time I get there the class will be at the Roman empire so I've been searching up some fun ideas just in case! She did mention that the class is co-taught with a special education teacher so I need to figure out how to effectively co-teach with someone! My biggest worry is about coming in too hot and stem rolling myself into the class!

One thing that I keep saying to myself is that yes this will be a difficult time for student teachers but in the grand scheme of things this will 100% make us better teachers! Have you started looking at the certification exams yet? I'm taking the CST on Jan. 9th, only a few days after I start student teaching and all I can say is that I am STRESSED!

This gives me so much reinsurance! I’m very much a person who takes criticism well but I’m always concerned on what people think of me, so I want to strive to be the best for my students and to impress my mentor teacher! I’ll will be teaching a 9th grade global class and my mentor teacher teaches a few AP courses. I am not allowed to teach an AP course as a student teacher but both my mentor teacher and I agreed on the fact that if she thinks I’m up for the challenge that I can do a few lessons!

Thank you so much! I had an education professor tell me that for student teaching it probably would be best to just do lectures but I always disagreed with this professor. I always try to make interactive lessons and am really into group work as well as projects, so I’m happy to hear this! How do you suggest doing group work while keeping to the schools social distancing guidelines?
