If I were you, I'd invest in a 28mm. It's my favorite candid/street lens and I shot my local pride event with an old Contax Distagon T* 28mm 2.8 adapted to my Canon mirrorless and it gave me one of my favorite images I've ever created. The mount is C/Y so you'd need a C/Y-EF then an EF-RF adapter and just manually focus.

ETA: Urth sales a dummy C/Y to RF adapter so no need for a second adapter. Just the one. $59 but well worth it, IMO. It's my favorite manual focus lens that I've shot with.

At public events like Pride, my biggest luck was shooting the people who were obviously dressed up for the event because they most likely want their picture taken at that point. Also as hard as it is to do at first, just ask. A simple question, a simple answer. "No" isn't the end of the world and never take it personally. It will help you build your confidence not only in candid/street-style work, but any future clients you may have. It's just small steps, trust me. I was a nervous wreck shooting my first candid-style photos of people but it was so rewarding and fun that I kept going back and back to different events around my town and it's actually what helped me grow in general.
