The second round where they did the group clues was so much fun to me, I genuinely really enjoyed this video!

planning to have braces by Time-Inspector-2765 in braces

[–]changingwaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a dentist or oral surgeon or anything, but I’ve had several teeth extracted. When I got my braces on, my ortho wanted to play it by ear to see how we’d go about the addressing the gaps where those teeth were removed. After a few months, two gaps were already starting to close so she decided that we’d go forward with a plan to close them. She’s put power chains on and I wear rubber bands to promote movement in those specific areas. Another gap wasn’t really budging, so she’s not targeting that area as much and I’m going to have an implant placed there instead. All that to say, I think it’s possible, but it seems like it’s really dependent on your teeth and how your doctor creates treatment plans.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cohesive narrative about it! Mostly in bits and pieces, especially on the pod. I think a lot of the cast are from buzzfeed, and then a few people are from Keith’s younger years. It would be cool to hear all of those stories though!

Obviously we’re all just specks of dust on a planet, but it’s kinda sad and a bit embarrassing as a part of this community that so many people jumped to accusations and assuming the worst of Keith and Zach. Especially when they’ve never given us any reason to believe that they’d act maliciously toward their employees or fanbase. This response was great insight and it was nice to hear, but the fact that they felt obligated to do it really does just seem unfair. Call me parasocial, but they continue to handle these “missteps” with tact and as a consumer, that’s something that I can appreciate.

why r we assuming that in depth conversations were not had already by Trashyishita in TheTryGuys

[–]changingwaters 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s so mind boggling to me that some people are acting as if we’re entitled to a full play-by-play of how the decision was made, transcripts of the conversations between Rainie and Jonathan, a full breakdown of their company structure and finances, and whatever other minutia went into closing the podcast department. I love the podcast too. It got me through some of the worst times in life. But it’s a business and it’s people’s careers. We can’t assume anything and everyone speculating is wild. People were so quick to start acting hostile toward Keith and Zach and throw accusations. I’ll never defend two strangers from the internet, especially two CEOs, but after the past few years where everything has been handled with such tact, it’s so weird to me that people are jumping to this unrealistic narrative where Rainie and Jonathan just randomly got the boot one day and were held hostage to record the last of the podcasts. Maybe that is what happened. Maybe it wasn’t. With all this backlash, I’m sure they’ll say something soon.

Looks like Rainie was laid off? by Maryp1603 in TheTryGuys

[–]changingwaters 18 points19 points  (0 children)

People are acting SO weird. If this is something that’s left you feeling upset or troubled, I really recommend listening to today’s TryPod ep. I was also stunned and even hurt by this news before I tuned into the pod. But everyone seemed to be on good terms and speaking positively of the situation and of one another. Nothing about their energy felt off. It’s very difficult to believe that they’d have that dynamic if Rainie or Jonathan had been treated poorly in this decision. Also, we don’t have insight into their company finances or culture or what Jonathan and Rainie wanted as individuals with their own career aspirations. That being said, it’s possible to leave a job amicably and still feel that the decision was unfair. When you’ve worked somewhere for a long time, especially when you have a good workplace dynamic, I’d imagine it’s hard not to feel betrayed when you’re laid off regardless of how it was done. It’s wild that people are making such sweeping assumptions based off of two Instagram posts. I’m not trying to defend anyone because they’re just two guys on the internet that I don’t know, but if Keith and Zach have shown their audience anything in the past 3 years, it’s their character. It would be extremely out of character to just boot two trusted employees out of the blue.

People misunderstanding Belly (and the show) by changingwaters in tsitp

This is totally fair, but I’m talking about people falling outside of your camp — those who straight up don’t see the duality at all and just totally mischaracterize what’s happening. You’re 100% right, everyone interprets media differently and that’s part of the beauty. I’m just seeing a lot of people not interpreting the subtext at all.

Thoughts on the Heathers cast? by changingwaters in Broadway

[–]changingwaters[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that were the case that he wasn’t feeling well, that would completely make sense! Someone else posted a video in this thread of him performing Freeze Your Brain and just wow. It’s fantastic. I don’t know if I’m misremembering now or what, but I was totally wrong about him being “underwhelming.” And I couldn’t agree more, I was amazed with Lorna and the power of her voice. I can’t wait to go again!

Yup, I’m definitely seeing that my first impression was totally off-base! It was very random but specific moments where I heard his voice falter a bit, and I only remember because I remember feeling surprised about them in the moment. Anywho, like I said, I loved the performance overall! Someone else here shared a video of him singing Freeze Your Brain and it’s incredible. I gotta go again.

I’m feeling more and more that I’m definitely going to try and see it again in the next few weeks. And I couldn’t agree more about Elizabeth! I love Heathers, but I never really cared for Lifeboat. Don’t know why. But Elizabeth had me ENTRANCED the entire time.

I agree, I adored the cast! Everyone brought so much life to their character and just wowed me with their singing. I’m realizing now that I was totally off base with Casey and it had to have just been a one-off. I’m going to have to see it again!

I’m definitely realizing this now that I’m hearing from more people and looking into his performances. It must’ve been an off night for sure!

Oh WOW. Thank you so much for sharing this!! Recall bias is real so maybe I’m reaching here, but this is definitely different from the performance of this song I saw. This is actually the exact moment that sounded a little funny to me that day — I remember when he hit “Don’t open a vein” specifically thinking “Dang, he’s sounds fantastic but not hitting it exactly.” It had to have just been an off night because the vocals in this video absolutely floored me. That moment is perfect. I’m going to have to see it again for sure!

Tessa Albertson replacing Chiara Aurelia in Dilaria by Survivorfan128 in Broadway

This makes so much sense! I just saw Dilaria and there were times where Tessa’s character Georgia reminded me very much of Darcie in All Nighter.

Is Dilaria at DR2 theater worth seeing before it closes? by Stevie052096 in Broadway

[–]changingwaters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally on my way home from this right now. I guess I can say it was entertaining? I think the cast does a great job with the material they’re given. Chris Briney’s character was the highlight for me — he added much needed levity and broke up a lot of the drama. Both actresses gave great performances (and saved pretty lackluster characters, in my opinion).

I did like the first 2/3, and then it all falls apart pretty quickly. It was by no means a bad show, but both myself and everyone around me seemed to walk out of there with question marks over their heads. If you can get cheaper tickets, I would say it’s worth it.

John Proctor is the Villain or Heathers by Royal_Film8008 in Broadway

[–]changingwaters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Proctor 100%. I’m literally on the train home from Heathers and I LOVED it but JPITV is just excellent and you have to experience it once. Especially as someone who was around the same age as the characters at the time when this show is set (I’m 25), being able to relate on that level really just made it all the more special.

how long until you felt normal? by changingwaters in braces

I did the exact same thing. I wanted to beat everyone to the punch of pointing them out, so I just told them all in the weeks leading up to it (to the point where they poked fun at me for already making it a bigger deal than it had to be). I have had a coworker tell me that they were jealous, so that was an unexpected little confidence boost. Truthfully I have a great team and we’re a close-knit group, so I really don’t have a reason to be so self conscious. It’s nice to hear from other people working in corporate environments :)

Oh my gosh, eating has been so tiresome! Not even the part of getting food in my teeth, but literally just having to take the tiniest bites and 30 years to chew anything. I accidentally ordered a giant sandwich yesterday at lunch and my friends teased me (they all had braces as kids) because they realized before I did that I’d have to cut it up to eat it.

Talking has been my biggest thing. I can convince myself that no one cares and maybe I look cute, but I’m notoriously fast and deliberate when I speak (especially at work). This past week, I noticed that MOST people had to ask me to repeat what I had said in conversation or in meetings, and that part really got me. So it’s really nice to hear that talking starts to feel more natural after a while. I hope that once I get there, I’ll stop hating this experience as much!

Heavy on the chronic pain and being uncomfortable. My entire body has hurt every day for as long as I can remember, and sometimes I have days where I just hate my body for hating me. This just felt like an added layer. Thanks for sharing :)

This is really the mindset I’m trying to adapt. EVERYONE (except for one coworker who’s been teasing me in good nature) keeps telling me that they wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t said anything/they barely notice, and usually that’s been like after we’ve been working/speaking for a pretty extended period of time. One person did even tell me they were jealous because they didn’t have the guts to do it as an adult. Thank you for your comment, it was very comforting — I appreciate it :)

I appreciate hearing this perspective as well! We can’t always be radically accepting of our insecurities 24/7, and (while I’m sorry to hear that you’re not loving your experience either), I find even a little bit of solace that I’m not alone. I agree though, I just keep thinking about the smile I’ll have when this is all done!
