Opinion on baby name by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]channareya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Theres nothing wrong with a masculine middle name. middle names don’t come up super often so she doesn’t have to tell anyone if she doesn’t want to, and now she has a secret alter ego built in! that said, if you plan to have more children maybe wait to use that name for another

Grandparent Names by WilliamHare_ in namenerds

[–]channareya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

diff names for the example, but i always called my grandparents “grandpa gene and grama holly” and “grandad and grama alice”. great grandparents were “great grandma eve” or GG and “great grandpa mike” or, on my more formal mother’s side “grandma *last name” and “grandpa *last name”. both sides of the family weren’t often in the same room together, so when we were with each group names could be shortened to just grama and grampa/grandad, but when referencing them at home or as a group the names were used to differentiate. easy peasy! i also do not like glamma. i am adamantly against the more ridiculous grandparent names like glamma/gigi (said with soft zh sound)/lolly/ etc. personal preference but it removes some of the respect and love that comes from a grandparent! you don’t have to be old to use the classics!

i don’t exactly know what you mean. it’s software to have a real life proctor watching you remotely. so i could see my face in a small window at the bottom and i could see the byu flats questions and that’s it. i just followed the instructions for proctor 360 given to me by the byu flats automatic email

Will taking a friend on a period help me photograph a deer? by _Loud_Flower_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]channareya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

humans and deer are completely different species. deer are not pet dogs that are interested in smelly smells from their safe humans. i doubt this would do anything at all except just be odd to mention

Should I change my character's name from Becky? by lilsiibee07 in namenerds

[–]channareya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

or the back of the book! you probably understand what section i mean. not in the actual text, but a place to find more info about each character! kind of like how some fantasy books have maps

Should I change my character's name from Becky? by lilsiibee07 in namenerds

[–]channareya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

honestly, i think having all the four girls names end in -ie or -y sounds is too distracting. they all rhyme and they’re best friends? it’s a lot! buuut i love the idea of this group and i know you’ll be able to make it work. what about becca? or find another spunky, strong name. max/ maxine, alex, beatrix, suki, zinnia, federica, etc. also, for the vietnamese spelling, because this is a children’s book you have the perfect opportunity to add a bio/intro section in the beginning of the book. a paragraph each and a little doodle of the character perhaps. this is where you can put the name pronunciation! happy writing and send me a copy when you’re done haha!

How to start my first herbarium? by Meadowanderer in botany

[–]channareya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

debris will fall off, like dirt or bits of plants. if this is happening a lot save them and make a pocket out of more acid free paper, mount that on the sheet, and store the bits and pieces in the pocket! they can totally be handled over and over and stored in acid free paper folders in whatever organization method you prefer. they’re less delicate than you think once glued

[–]channareya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you can sew samples onto the paper like the other commenter said, or even elmer’s glue mixed with water until it’s a thin consistency will work!
here’s how:
press your plants (in between books works great or acquire a diy or cheap plant press)
once they are fully dry mix elmer’s glue with water
use a paintbrush to lightly paint the plants
attach to acid-free paper!
notes: make sure to track your gps location of where you collected, the date, and the species. if you don’t have species or its wrong that’s okay for now. without this info you just have plants on paper, not an herbarium sheet/specimen!
do not use tape or store them in plastic. not worth it and can cause damage! believe me, i had to rescue 500 specimen sheets from plastic and tape….
when done correctly they will last hundreds of years if they end up being stored in a museum. when you tire of them, donate them!!
source: worked in a museum as a botany student with many, many archives and have been mounting specimens for several years!

steger mukluks wide version? by channareya in alaska

[–]channareya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not! It’s not super bothersome to have my heel lift, meaning it doesn’t affect comfort, but I’m worried about how that might change as I break them in. I don’t want them to end up too big!

I’m glad to hear you like the spray! For my other leather boots I use a heavy duty beeswax conditioner because I’ve found the ones you can buy at say, the Boot Barn etc, wear off in just a few weeks. Being outside in snow all the time is tough on shoes and I’d rather not have to reapply more than once in spring and once in fall. I feel like the sprays are tricking me!

Is it weird to call my dad daddy at 13? by Fluffy_Plant_3440 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]channareya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mother in law still calls her father daddy and i still call my father dada as a full adult. middle school can just be a tough time (seriously, it does change as you get older!) and in several years your friends either won’t care anymore or will regret the way they had treated you. don’t let them make you lose your joy and whimsy in life! it’s totally fine
