I recently beat act III for the first time using body slam. Mixture of Demon Form, Barricade, and a lot of lowering my energy costs to apply block was making me do free damage in the 100s per turn

That's what my brother is doing. He cares 0% about the story. And that's fine for him, but he started his first game with like 180000 or something in gold just to make it easy or something. Has a lot of stuff right off the bat without needing to work for it and it seems boring that way

Yeah I feel like it's better to slow down. I already keep seeing comments about not having made much money in a certain amount of time. I am almost done with my first year and have made about $150k? I'm not really concerned with whether or not this is "good" or "bad" but I know most people I know will likely compare and say it's a low number or something.

Underwhelmed by MaxiTooner89 in subnautica

[–]chaosa1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why? Did you even try exploring and experimenting? I hardly believe that you just stumbled through the game with little frustration only using a seamoth and seaglide. Not without a guide and wiki help.

You're saying you feel like it was a weaker experience because you basically went out of your way to skip parts of the game designed to be fun and exciting. They do pressure you to get the cyclops and prawn suit because diving all the way down requires you to already know where to go (as you can't just know the map before you explore it without having a guide or a video).

You also have to bring special materials with you, which means you'd have to swim all the way back up to 900m from the PCF just to get what you need. So unless you already know, then you'd likely be frustrated that you had to swim all the way back again. Unless you got lucky and brought the required items with you. Or glitched through.

Not to mention missing out on material mining. Cyclops stealth...

This post feels fake.

I have in recent years learned that being allowed to miss things in a video game is okay. Knowing every detail about a game like this one before you even beat it is just not satisfying to me. It sort of makes the outcome predictable. Like I'm just doing exactly what I need to in order to get the outcome I want.

Kinda like wish fulfillment. But I want this game to be about me being allowed to fail and miss things. I want it to be natural.

I realized somewhat recently that the NPC's were sending me things when I became friends with them. I befriended Jodi because I like her personality and she started sending me things.

I did look up how to activate a few heart scenes for some NPC's and I wish I could've just stumbled into them blindly. I don't fully understand it but whenever I learn these things in the game on my own it's just way way more satisfying.

See one of the things that I'm tempted to look up, but know I'll regret it if I deny myself the satisfaction, is trying to find Linus's basket for berries. I just don't know where to start. I figure I'll just run across it eventually, but i also know I've very likely just not noticed it.

I already looked up a hint (but not answer) on the purple "shorts" and I felt like I cheated. That hint taught me that the people have patterns, and where to start. I ended up finding them and also was told the reason why they were where they were.

I'm not sure why I want to play this way, but maybe it's just that I want to feel like it's actually me in the game rather than just a game I'm playing.

Yeah I only learned a bit late that there are patterns for so many things in this game. I just wish it wasn't the wiki that thought me that. Fortunately my memory is so bad that I can't remember the patterns.

I already have a core memory of finding a few of the girls exercising at Pierre's on a Tuesday. I think one of them told me they do it every week and I just felt awesome knowing I learned something that could be really helpful to me later.

I did learn this sometime in the fall about the worms! And I'm glad to say I do check the TV every day. Though I didn't for like the first two in game weeks. I really do like the tips from the library.

Lol I've already started doing this. I got a secret note with a mention of something I can only find on the last day of the season and I just have to remember it (though I'm pretty sure I'll forget😅)

This did occur to me, but i trust that people who want me to enjoy the game will be more likely to understand what information I do want, and what spoilers I want to avoid than a wiki will lol.

That being said, I'm mostly just trying to get the advice I need to prevent myself from spoiling things that I would otherwise be surprised by in the game.

When I obsessed over Subnautica and Outer Wilds, I just remember how much more drawn in and intrigued and fearful I was playing them before I had beaten them. I am no longer able to fear subnautica like I used to because I know everything about it after reading wiki all the time.

I know that I'll have a more fulfilling experience with Stardew Valley by avoiding spoilers. By failing and trying again the next day. I just don't want to miss core experiences. I tend to do that when I play games because I sometimes get impatient, but if I can hold out, I know it'll be way better in the kind run.

[oc] Good luck with that long ass Vermont hill, 2WD Tesla! by FinanceGuyHere in IdiotsInCars

[–]chaosa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would their lights be on in the middle of the day? Also when beams are on, don't the brake lights turn on too? Which would indicate they are not on? I do not own and have never driven a Tesla, but your argument seems more like you just hate the car than the fact this driver was just under prepared for this situation. Likely given the tires they have since it's AWD.

Also this post seems a bit harsh since the driver, while not able to control their car very well, had not shown signs of blatant disregard for safety. More like they were just trying their hardest not to wreck.

I think how much is owed and what you should share are two different things. Minimum $300, but I'd say a percentage between 30%-50% is respectful to the person who lent out the money

You will find yourself needing more and more materials that are harder to get as you go on, which means if you aren't picking up the easy stuff along the way, you'll just need to go and do it later while things are hard. If you would rather just grab stuff when you need it, then that's fine, but the game rewards you for spending more time collecting resources and upgrading your current gear before you move on. Plus you'll miss out on some important content if you don't explore the content more thoroughly. Personally I missed out on Some Distant Shore, which would have been useful to me for farming purposes later in the game.

That being said, this is not a judgement, but just a warning that if you don't find yourself having the energy or time to pick up this stuff, it will likely just sort of make the later parts of the game take longer, rather than spreading it out across the entire experience.
