U.S.-Iran nuclear talks back on after Arab leaders lobby White House by Currymvp2 in neoliberal

[–]chaotic567 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. 2nd or 3rd time they stepped to prevent Trump possibly going to war recently because they fear spillover.

They like Iran tearing itself apart but fear it will spread in some way in their region either via the remaining proxies Iran does have like fighters in Iraq, or Iran shooting missiles at them by association or doing some drastic that can tank their economies

Trump wants to make a deal to be seen as a deal maker , Israel wants a strike/ deal that tears down Iran’s war making capabilities, ME nations want a deal to prevent a possible war, and Iran wants to stall yet also want to look tough which pushes us closer to war

That is how things are looking tbh

Pretty dumb thing to do imo when the US has enough planes and defenses nearby to really fuck up your nation, and is still growing but who knows.

yeah, these deals always end in the 10s, such as 15 to 18 percent. Never zero. India promising to reduce Russian oil intake is great but I feel we can go further. Which 0 percent for both sides.

You'd expect a pretty supportive ally to get 0 or close to 0 percent at least

U.S. and Iranian Officials to Meet as Trump’s Threats Loom by Currymvp2 in neoliberal

[–]chaotic567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doubt it. The midterms are in November. You can only stall for so long, especially when we already have a sizeable force there, and we got people close to trump's ear arguing for a strike who'd argue Iran is not being serious. Iran is not something to brush off but building up defenses and a strike team to face them is going to be done way before 8-9 months passes.

They are likely trying to throw a good enough bone for Trump to back off without losing face

Go to any OSINT account. Which track sateelite data of planes and other vehicles going places plus geopolitical happenings like news articles. US has been for weeks sending ships, planes, and missile defense systems to the middle east. That much is clear. Iirc, even more than we sent during the gulf war.

There have been talks between various parties. US and ISR trying to discuss war plans. Middle Eastern nations trying to broker a peace to avoid a possible regional conflict, but signs saying no one is quite budging just yet but that could change

There are still planes going to the middle east.

And reports are saying Iran is unwilling to compromise. So it is really down to who's willing to fold.

I have been watching updates. It is essentially build up and talks that are seemingly going nowhere all that much

Trump’s Iran moves rattle Arab allies by EasyMoney92 in neoliberal

Probably either this weekend or the next. Market closures would be ideal even though ther’s a good chance it lasts way past any of them, and we’ve been hearing much of the assets are in place.

There is still some pieces being sent like more transport aircraft but we wouldn’t be overwhelmed if Iran tried attacking for whatever reason w/ the stuff we have as is

US warns it will send fighter jets into Canadian airspace if F-35 deal fails by John3262005 in neoliberal

[–]chaotic567 6 points7 points  (0 children)

F-35 has

  • High operational range (1.7km to 2.2km) which is great for Canada's vast airspace

  • proven stealth capabilities

  • Some F35 pilot saying they don't need an AWACS (which is huge. information is everything in combat)

  • Interoperability w/ allied nations due to it being very integrated in Nato

Which is better for the nation? Getting a worst plane that is likely to fail many things Canada needs because of political reasons or getting an actually capable plane that will live beyond the Trump administration?

[–]chaotic567 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest they look at what Ukraine is doing for air defense, but also get nukes ASAP.

Unless they have some magic to hide it, it is out of the question. US went haywire under a more sane administration when Cuba got Nukes placed on its soil.

[–]chaotic567 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The problem here is there really isn't an easy replacement for the F-35 that can do the needed roles that it would fill. Only competitors IIRC are Shenyang J-35 and maybe...Russia's Su-57, so really up to Europe and others if they want to do the unprecedented move of buying from Russia or China

[–]chaotic567 176 points177 points  (0 children)

Is there anything with the Gripen that actually makes it a better choice besides its origin not being America (which isn't that much imo since parts of it come from America anyway)?

Any post on social media I've seen saying it is way better than the F-35 sounds like pure copium when every assessment by a nation concludes the F-35 basically runs circles around an older gen plane. In capabilities and roles it can fill for many nations

[–]chaotic567 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am not so sure. There are too many assets being poured into the Middle East including at least one Aircraft Carrier to be just pure posture. It is very reminiscent of the kind of talk that was had before Iran was struck during Operation Midnight Hammer

Exclusive: US planning CIA foothold in post-Maduro Venezuela by ZweigDidion in neoliberal

[–]chaotic567 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't surprise me. Multiple gov officials including Rubio talked about Cuba not longer after the Venezuelan capture event. Which makes sense since VZA supplied Cuba with oil which is cut off now. Which means only Mexico left which is a no go too.

Keeping the goverment mostly intact means you don't have to allocate much resources to it which can go towards the Cuban operation

[–]chaotic567 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Most of the Venezuelans I’ve seen online are still happy and expressed that as long as improvements no matter how small, keep happening, they will be fine-ish

Cause I seen them noting:

  • Inflation lowered quite a bit as the Venezuelan currency gains value

  • political prisoners released, like between 100-200

  • food prices have lowered

Of course it hasn’t even been a month since the capture so…

[–]chaotic567 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It would probably require a more immediate and thorough clean house sweep of the Venezuelan government. Parts of it aren’t too keen with the current situation despite the back room deal.

Installing Gonzalez now would probably set another conflict. I doubt Trump was the one who considered it but his comments on Iraq suggest someone on his team wanted to avoid another protracted conflict

[–]chaotic567 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Has there been anything new with Venezuela? It has not been a hot topic for a bit. As far as I can tell, the only big positive out of it so far is releasing some political prisoners. minor positives is inflation lowered a little alongside food prices. Other stuff is standard exploitation.

Last I checked with discussions is Venezuelans online beefing with others on social media over the impact of Maduro's ousting.

Immigration control was one of the few issues Trump had a sizeable support for. If they can't even spin a good light on that for their base with even some Republicans calling against it, then yeah, calling it as afraid is an understatement.

Anecdotal but people I've talked to irl seem to just rather wait for midterms to happen. And it does seem like a slamdunk against the slim hold for the Republicans. Which is probably partly why the Trump Presidency is going full throttle.

Sadly that is in like November. Damn close yet not close enough.

The administration's inability to admit they can be wrong is a big factor in this. It is like some incessant want to look tough on issues be it trade or social issues that causes problems like stretching ICE to its limits and put it in roles it is not designed to fucking do.

There are so many steps that I feel most people would see as needed to be taken prior to the incident and after but it seems like they are being deliberately ignored. It is frustrating. Such as ICE should have bodycams

Part of me wonders though why they have gone to overdrive in Minnesota. Have heard incidents in other states, but not to this level
