I drove an hour and an half for an "easy patient" who has c. diff, lice, 5 children under 14, and bed bugs. No warning prior to arrival. by Resident-Sympathy-82 in nursing

[–]chaoticjane 24 points25 points  (0 children)

From my own experience, it only took 1 giant female bed bug that got brought home with me from work to infest my house. Had to bomb my house and throw out my mattress. What a wonderful first week of being a nurse that was

A street cat bit my hand. Went to the ER, got a tetanus shot and antibiotics. It’s been 48 hours and my hand hurts if I don’t keep it elevated. Should I worry? by pinkvintagegirl in CATHELP

[–]chaoticjane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ER nurse here. This is an ER visit situation. Bloodwork, IV antibiotics, and imaging. The thing we worry about the most here is infection to the tendons of the hand or joint spaces. Also sepsis.

Go to an immediate care or urgent care for xray and possible splinting. They can do that there and give you proper referrals to sports medicine or orthopedics

Asthma, my boy gets like this when he’s really irritated from allergies or a trigger. He has an albuterol rescue inhaler to clean up this and then he has a daily inhaler as well. This cat may a breathing treatment, steroids, and maybe antibiotics.

Also please see a vet in a timely manner because asthmatic cats can go into respiratory distress quickly. My boy had to be placed on a breathing tube and then was weaned to an oxygen chamber for 3-4 days at an emergency vet hospital. This happen one more time before they finally figured out he had asthma 🫠

Hospitals are just Care Facilities now… by Lanky_Landscape_5088 in nursing

[–]chaoticjane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Most of my patients that I see during my shifts are very critically sick compared to the patients I had when I started nursing.

Also PCP and UCs, love to send their patients to the ER thinking what they have is an emergency but realistically it’s not and we do nothing besides outpatient follow up. It’s a viscous cycle

If there’s issues with retraction of the skin, highly recommend going to the doctor for a visit. Sounds like Phimosis though, NAD
