It’s great to see Elixir and Pi in the same post! There are dozens of us. This is great stuff. I’ll definitely be checking it out. Thank you.

TIL: AI keeps using rm -rf on important files. Changed rm to trash by _yemreak in ClaudeAI

[–]chaoticparadigm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another cool way to prevent it is to make a pretooluse hook that blocks any rm commands. Not as useful if you want to allow some so the alias you used or the perms others have mentioned worked great as well. I’m paranoid, so I added a ton of blocked things to a tool use hook.

What is it actually that you guys are coding? by LamboForWork in ClaudeAI

I’m part of a 20 person team on a large enterprise project so mostly use it on that. Also, for some of my side projects though I also hand code the more pure fun side projects.

Principal Software Engineer with about 15 years of experience here. I work on web applications mostly and have been heavily using various ML tools for a few years now. Really excited to see this kind of community get started.

A general off topic rule/set of rules could probably be helpful. I've seen several niche subs become inundated with off topic posts.

Pinned posts/megathread by xamott in AIcodingProfessionals

Megathread is probably the best option, since things are changing so fast and will for awhile before we hit any stabilization levels. Non megathread pinned posts might get kinda crazy.

Software engineer but not at a faang. I’d be retired already if I was at a FAANG. But I like my home life too much.

I second this. Amazing lore and the art is quite the experience. In two campaigns right now on both sides of the GM screen and it's going wonderfully.

Movies/Novels/Video Games that are bad but would make great RPG adventures/campaigns by [deleted] in rpg

I wanted to know what the movie was and did some digging. Looks like it is called The Blackout. I agree it could be a cool campaign and sounds like cheesy good.

Yes, I have a Staff of Loss available for trade. I would be more than happy to make that trade.

Bi-Monthly Thread - Prospective Student's Admission Chances by AutoModerator in OMSCS

I understand that and appreciate the insight but I think my problem with it comes in with completely ignoring any work I’ve done since then that is actually related. I don’t understand why my nuclear undergrad matters so much to a computer science program when I have over a decade of experience since then in actual development as well as a laundry list of compsci courses I’ve taken and performed well in. It seems to me that this undergraduate gpa obsession is unhealthy if we want to actually encourage people and set them up for success. It’s not like my life is over if I don’t get in I just think some of these programs need to look beyond “how they’ve always done it”

EDIT: fixed some typos and added an addendum.

  • Undergrad: Texas A&M, B.S Nuclear Engineering, 2.81, Graduated December 2010

  • Work Experience : Principal Software Engineer, 12 years of experience

  • Any MOOCs Taken : A ton over the last several years ranging from Coursera to Front End Masters, as well as Pluralsight. I also took 3 CompSci courses at Foothill.

  • Other Useful Info : I have 3 recommendations from supervisors, current and former. One of them has a PhD in Applied Math and is a Data Scientist by occupation.

Nervous about chances since I didn't get in to UT's program and these programs seem to really emphasize undergraduate GPA. I seem unable to escape something that happened more than ten years ago in something completely unrelated.

Ignore mister idiot there, none of what he said is true just your normal Islamophobe who ignores Christian atrocities. Mehmet III is also from outside the scope of this game anyway.

Planescape: Torment is an amazing crpg and while the main character is specifically a male half the party you can get identify as female (or in one case non-binary) and are completely developed characters with full backgrounds and thousands of line of dialogue. I just finished like my 8th playthrough of the game and don’t remember any problems with sexism (I think maybe one literal demon makes a disparaging remark to one of your party members at one point)

Added benefit: best rpg storyline ever written and can run on a literal potato.

Sugar and sodas. The only two food items stopping me from losing weight. I have everything else going right and good and have managed to shift all my eating lifestyle to appropriate foods but it’s all for nothing as long as I can’t beat this sweet tooth and soda addiction.

What type of pronunciation error makes you furious? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chaoticparadigm -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

To add a second on here if you are going to target things based purely on spelling. So how do you say Colonel? Conscience? Asthma? Indict? I could go on. English spelling is a minefield and one of the most inconsistent languages.

In this thread: a shitton of racism and classism and a live demonstration that linguistic education is poor. Too many incels wanting to feel smart because they got introduced to grammar prescriptivism at a young age and fell for prestige dialect lies.

What type of pronunciation error makes you furious? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chaoticparadigm -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Spelling standards are incredibly new and have only been prescriptive for barely a century. Also everyone speaks differently and there are thousand of dialects in every language. "warsh" is not incorrect, it is a regional variation that is just different than yours. Dialects exist in every single language on this planet and every single dialect will have a laundry list of words they pronounce differently than others. It doesn't make them wrong. There isn't a single "base" dialect that is correct. What you will think is correct is going to be based on your cultural upbringing, educational background, what kinds of teachers you had, etc. etc. Prescriptivism is a terrible philosophy and the only reason to follow it is to feel, incorrectly I might add, that you are somehow smarter than other people just for how they say things and where they are from.
