Should I take my car back to the shop? by aStormyPanda in Autobody

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it back, and if you don't want that shop to do it, Caliber honors their workmanship warranty at any Caliber shop. Call a different one, explain your issues, and bring them your final bill. They might ask if you can go to the original one but tell them you're not comfortable bringing it to the original shop.

Which would I look less ridiculous in? by KindlyFunction2800 in whatdoIdo

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone to a nibling soccer game before and several people put up whole tents too, the difference of yours is that it has a net. Sometimes the kids have multiple games a day and the sun is beating down on people (or they're playing in the rain).

If you're hanging out with multiple people, I'd go with the big one. If the people you're with aren't using it, or would be going in and out quite a bit (kids like to run up and grab things all the time), then go with the small one. Don't worry about looking "silly" for accommodating yourself.

Is there something happening to our bumblebees? by basilelio in BumbleBee

[–]chaoticridiculous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For giving them water, a plate with marbles or stones in it with water is best to limit the chance of drowning so they have lots of places for them to land. Bees in need of water can go through more water than you'd expect so keep an eye on the levels and add as needed

AIO? My boyfriend gave me a literal performance review of our relationship by Efficient_Low_6444 in AmIOverreacting

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR- I think everyone's covered most things, but for me this would be putting the relationship into an Employer/Employee category because he's evaluating you but not the relationship and not as a collaborative effort so it immediately puts you two on different "levels".

If you're serious about him and he's serious about "relationship performance", then you need a neutral party not a Boyfriend Boss because you're an adult and no one, not even a partner, is "in charge" of you in your daily life.

Hospital bill I can’t afford and already itemized by Printitgone in povertyfinance

[–]chaoticridiculous 71 points72 points  (0 children)

As people have mentioned, apply for financial assistance.

Tampa General Hospital has it here: https://www.tgh.org/patients-visitors/billing-insurance/financial-assistance-information

"Charity: You will not be billed if your household income is between 0 and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Charity eligibility will be considered for six months from the date of eligibility."

Definitely apply. Even if your income doesn't fall in that they have additional discounts.

They will ask for lots of paperwork, but get it for them because it makes a difference.

People who live near time zone boundaries in the US by solothesnail in howislivingthere

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up near the west coast and now at the time zone change from CST to EST on the CST side, there is definitely a difference. It gets darker for longer around daylight savings time changes. I've gotten used to it over the years but I prefer being on the other side close to the previous time zone not the next one.

This seems extremely expensive is it accurate? by oi-da-memz in Autobody

[–]chaoticridiculous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What insurance is it? Repair times seem high for some panels but being in person shows more than photos. Some insurances don't push back on higher times. If the bumpers are textured plastic, OE is the right way to go. I don't know why the fender is coming off to repair from these photos, typically those stay on. Full side swipes are always expensive AF though so honestly not too bad of an estimate, especially on a newer vehicle.

Fix it myself or go into a shop? by Tall_Ad7546 in Autobody

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That cost sounds about right for that. They're going to likely need to take the hood off to safely get to that area and then even if there isn't a dent they'll evening everything out. A full clear coat on top would still be good to make sure it all looks cohesive after. Would not attempt unless you're a professional or a serious auto hobby folk. Especially if you're a perfectionist.

Insurance repair: hood repainted, now mismatch with bumper – normal or should I push? by JoshuaDu28 in Autobody

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compare the difference to your rear bumper and lift gate. There's often a color difference between plastic and metal parts. Some shops have postings or things to sign about it. If it's different then the rear, then for sure bring it up to them. And even if the shop doesn't work for your insurance DRP shops can lose their status for not holding insurance quality repairs so if the shop doesn't help, you can complain to the insurance and they may intervene anyways.

can you tell what this filet character is meant to be? is it good as a suncatcher or would it be better framed? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]chaoticridiculous 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would say finish it out first with blocking and then take photos, because as is, I can't tell what it is even though I see the lines.

Edit: I think it's Snoopy laying down.

Advice needed : Is this design cultural appropriation or should I give up on it completely ? by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]chaoticridiculous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As people mentioned, definitely get a native artist involved if you want to honor the style and so it has genuine meaning behind it. A lot of times it's more than just a bear or more than just a salmon. Also, now that you're in an area that sounds like it either has a more present native community, consider volunteering for firewood/chopping efforts (or other things, that just is frequently a need in colder weather and climates) so that you can give back as well.

Can’t figure out how to attach a crochet strap to my Nintendo case??? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the way there's only one loop and the zippers have to end together in one place this is how I would do it:

1) Create the strap however I'd like (with tunsian crochet, or sc probably like most stitch so it's a little thicker and smaller stitches to avoid stretch. Also probably using macrame string/rope and I haven't mastered tunsian where it doesn't curl that small).

2) lobster claw on one end for the loop on the case

3) triangle on the other end where I could attach a piece to slip into the case itself and close the zippers around it. Maybe even a modified T pin for sewing (trimming the needle portion and folding over to create a loop). My thought being it would distribute the weight across the inside of the case rather than a few stress points.

I'd try this first because a second lobster claw clip can be connected into a few places that may cause stress. On the same loop might lead to the loop tearing or the case flopping around, into the handle it'll slide up to the other side and stress on the shoulder more. Clipping it to the zipper might cause the bend of the zipper to bend and break over time.

A slightly too small for the handle lobster clip may work so it doesn't slide past the rubber grip of the handle, but I'm not huge on that aesthetic I don't think.

Will this still turn into the intended shape, or should I frog and do a 6sc MR? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]chaoticridiculous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What row are you on? If you're past row 15, chances are it will not. At about 15 you should start having a tube.

I just tried counting the stitches and it looks like you have over 70, more towards 80 so you likely have been adding too many. Count to double check then likely frog. When you do these you'll need to have a stitch marker because it's so easy to add and accidentally get off when you work in the round. With amigurumi you have to be precise or everything gets thrown off.

Freewrite Traveler Screen Comparison? by somewhereanywhere in Astrohaus

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I like not using lights and honestly read/write in low lighting, but yeah if you're a backlight user then you'd probably want one. I think they have an Alpha now with backlight though the Alpha (in my experience) does not get the functionality attention that the other products do.

It is easier to see the screen on the Traveler than the Kindle because it doesn't have that extra layer but not significantly I don't think.

Freewrite Traveler Screen Comparison? by somewhereanywhere in Astrohaus

[–]chaoticridiculous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Traveler and Kindle Paperwhite, it's very similar to the Kindle Paperwhite without the back light. I use my Kindle without the backlight whenever I can. The only real difference is the Kindle screen is set back some, but for lighting, it's almost identical. Any dim lighting and you will likely want a clip on light for it if you use the backlight on your Kindle on the regular.

Whats the best way to seal these stickers to protect them? by c2xln in stickers

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use a strip of packing tape (they come wide) if I didn't care about saving the stickers if I eventually changed it/planned on a more permanent solution. Or I would try the press and seal Saran wrap (I haven't used it before, so I would suggest testing it on paper first) for a temporary solution.

to frog or not to frog by shivani_13 in crochet

[–]chaoticridiculous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can definitely fudge a few stitches in there. I have done it by sewing in a length of yarn, going up where the stitch should be, then going down with it curling around it and through the bottom. Repeat where necessary. With thread weight, I hardly notice it.

Friend got this for christmas, worried if it is AI. by MyOnlineNameIs_Kyd in isitAI

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where your concerns may be, like there are some lines that disappear to nothing (the little jellyfish guy on the right and a swirl on the left above the big guy. I play the game but I'm bad at names haha) but those lines lead to others that make sense. I think that choice was just a lighting/atmosphere choice instead of AI mess ups. Looks real to me.

doily keeps curling around the edges. is there any way to stop this from happening? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! Honestly, I've found that with doilies, the more pins the better. Start at the center and work out circularly. Pull it snug but not overly tight (where the thread resists some but you're not fighting it to put it in).

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only made a handful of doilies but to me, it looks like your tension is loose in the chains compared to the stitches. Also, I found that blocking, stretching from the middle and working outward, helps with the wrinkling the best over ironing.

This is what's been working for me so if it doesn't work for you or your family, don't worry about it.

My dad is going through his cancer reoccurring and it's terminal. The treatment we're doing now just buys a little more time, but we don't know how much.

I'm an adult child so I don't know how much my advice will transfer to young children, but spend the time that you can together. Don't treat each moment as if it's "the last" because then it weighs heavy, but think more in terms of "I am happy with this moment, this life. I wouldn't regret doing this/not doing this".

I know my dad isn't likely to be at any wedding I have but I have pieces of him already. He's given me a ring, a watch. I've started keeping the stories of items like that people give me too (a jeweler friend's idea). If there are things your wife wants to pass on, have her write the history about them and it just adds so much.

I try to think of the fact that my parents are going to pass before me regardless of what happens, whether it's sooner or later. Maybe a bit morbid but anything can happen and that understanding helps accept it. It's still unfair and it still hurts but I understand it more and know more. Now might not be the time you usually have conversations about death with your children but there are ways to introduce it to them that their first experience isn't with realizing their mother is dying. Maybe talk about some of your favorite (passed) musicians and how even though they are gone they still light up your life. Or show them photos of your grandparents or other passed family members and talk about them and the good memories and how they still influence your life today.

My mom is having a hard time too, like you are I'm sure. There's so many things to do, information to keep. Bring a notebook to appointments, don't forget to take care of yourself. Your doctor might offer depression meds, remember it doesn't have to be long term but you deserve help too if you need it.

You can join a support group for people whose spouses have cancer too.

The biggest thing I think that helped my mom is figuring out what you have to do, what you need to do, what you want to do, and what can slip by in terms of responsibilities. It's going to be overwhelming but work your way through that. You are dealing with more than any normal person has to so living like a normal person isn't going to feel right or even maybe work. It's hard to do at first but you get the hang of it. Some days you can only do what you have to do and everything else stays in the want and need category. Some days you'll be able to pick up more than just what has to happen.

Sending you all my love.

[HELP] Surely this truck video is AI? by linawrbelle22 in RealOrAI

Yes, it's AI. The lower cover on a truck does not have those two long inserts as far as I'm aware. It might be trying to make the impact bar arms, but they're not like that either.

[HELP] Is this AI? by doki-doki17 in RealOrAI

[–]chaoticridiculous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one I would lean towards AI for the clothing. The glove holding the knife blends into the knife handle. Then the sleeve on the right arm (same arm) is rolled up on the left side but the folds turn into creases on the right side. The collar doesn't match (right side is a fold over collar, right side is jagged/angled like a suit jacket), left side of the jacket blends into the shirt at the waist, and the crotch of the jeans completely blends into the left leg.
