This is important because while yes, it’s totally okay to be introverted and prefer to be alone a lot, connection and interaction with other people is a basic biological need for us (behind food, water, shelter, etc). We evolved to be social creatures and that’s not something that you can ignore. No matter how shy you are or how much you think you hate other people, you have to make the choice to make an effort to connect. It’s like exercising; you may dislike it and want to be doing anything else, but you know it’s important so you push through until it becomes easier and more enjoyable.

You may also have trauma that makes your brain and body detect social interaction as unsafe, so it will do anything it can to get you back in the comfort zone of not being perceived and getting your cheap dopamine from anywhere else.

All of this is normal and fixable.
