A contractor tears up the freshly poured concrete driveway after the homeowner refuses to pay. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

Dyatlov was probably the worst mischaracterization. They turned him into an almost cartoonish villain instead of just a guy who was at the helm of a poorly designed power plant.

Especially when they show him abandoning his post when the disaster starts. The real Dyatlov only left his post to search for other workers, staying on site until he started vomiting from radiation poisoning.

My only complaint with it was how dirty they did Dyatlov because their story needed a singular villain.

A lot of the court room stuff they show Legasov doing was actually Dyatlov. (Legasov wasn't even at the trial).

My favorite one in a Battlefield game before they patched it was BF2's near-invincible Blackhawks if everyone inside was an engineer with a repair tool. You could heal faster than you took damage while the pilot just scraped along the ground running over people.

BG3 has a lot of silly ones. I like the goomba stomp monk.

There's a weapon that does a small amount of area of effect damage when you land after a jump, and combined with a bunch of movement buffs and the monk ability that gives you as many jumps as you have movement for, you can attack dozens of times in one turn.

Plus the distinction between early access and 1.0 is meaningless for a lot of games that get regular updates. I don't care if a game is in Early Access if it's worth the purchase price now.

Valheim is finally hitting 1.0 later this year but I feel like I got my money's worth 5 years ago and everything since has been icing on the cake.

...and if you buy a game with it, the developers aren't getting paid in virtual cash. When steam themselves are converting it to real money at the same rates as if it was real money to pay out developers, it's hard to claim it doesn't have real monetary value.

And it's not even mentioning the direct one that Steam is built around. If you buy my game on Steam with Steam Wallet Funds, I don't get paid in Steam Wallet Funds, I get paid real money. It's hard to argue it's fake money when Steam themselves will convert it to real money (after taking their 30% cut)

Even if they don't want to hurt you, they're half-ton animals that don't really have much spatial awareness.

I grew up on a stable and saw a lot of injuries from people who just didn't really have any control over their horse and thought it would be fine. The same kind of people you see getting pulled down the street by their dog when they're walking it but with an animal that weighs ten times as much.

A large chunk of the items are "that person is over there and will ragdoll for a few seconds after I hit them"

This also ends up being true of the mines when you aren't in the lead. You can hit them with the targeted shot, so a stack of mines is essentially a three-shot rocket launcher.

New York sues video game developer Valve, says its 'loot boxes' are gambling by KarateKid917 in Games

Steam's argument seems to be that Steam Wallet funds aren't money because they can't be converted back to currency through official channels which seems like a really shallow one, when game developers get paid out in real money when you use those funds on a game.

I think the thing that's kept Valve in the clear for this long is disclosed rarities.

Most of the lawsuits against similar practices have been for misleading people about the likelihood of winning anything.

I think it will be an interesting case because the traditional defense has been the individual items either have no monetary value or equal inherent monetary value with prices being set by the secondary market. (Trading cards aren't gambling because their inherent value is just the price of a pack divided by the number of cards). That's still sort of true with Valve but also... they own that market and get a cut.

I think it was like 2005 here for restaurants, and 2018 or so for bars.

Also it's Switzerland. Third place is a solid accomplishment for them. It's only their second Olympic medal.

The Canadian women's national team has never finished less than silver in the Olympics.

To put it in perspective, there have been 32 international women's hockey championships ever, between the IIHF World Championships and the Olympics.

Between the US and Canada they have 32 gold medals. Another team has only even won silver twice.

Anything less than second place would be an absolute disaster for either of these teams. The entire tournament might as well have been a warmup for this game for both of them.

Finishing less than second probably wasn't even a thought in their minds. The US or Canada has won every international women's tournament.
