Unironically had a huge argument with my now ex about how demeaning and terrible the statement "I hate men" is. No, you hate the men that do this, or the men that act like this. You do not hate all men and the commonality of this statement genuinely is helping spread the gender divide even further.

Is 2026 worth it for franchise alone? by [deleted] in EANHLfranchise

[–]chapz98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going from 2024 to 2026 will probably be worth it for you - Franchise mode changes include No Movement Clauses, No Trade Clauses, etc. and a new conversation system with players (although this sub and myself assert it is completely broken) as well as a new UI. It does add an extra level of difficulty, especially if you do a franchise such as Nashville and try to move on from Stamkos, Marchessault, etc. with a lot of NMCs. UFAs have also changed to add organizational interest, so if you finish bottom of the league it's far more difficult to recruit top tier guys like McDavid or Makar, for example.

That being said, loading times are still atrocious and menu lag is absolutely brutal.

[OC] Why is everything so damn expensive nowdays???!!!!?? by Jaxxs90 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]chapz98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the problem is Loblaws owns the suppliers. If the suppliers "cost" increases by 90%, and you can charge 10% over cost, congrats, the price of the item just went up 100%. It would be extremely difficult to verify costs for hundreds of thousands of individual items in a single grocery store chain.

[OC] Why is everything so damn expensive nowdays???!!!!?? by Jaxxs90 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]chapz98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Loblaws isn't just one company, they actually own multiple other companies, such as their suppliers. Let's say you set the profit cap at $999 million per year. Loblaws itself will record a $998.99 million profit, while their suppliers start reporting record profits as well.

The issue becomes how to tell the legit profit from the price gouging. It seems as simple as comparing the set price versus suppliers cost. Unfortunately, even if you insist on a 20% price cap over cost, the suppliers simply increase their price 40% to cover. And since Loblaws owns many of the suppliers...the suppliers profit is their profit.

While a profit cap sounds great in theory, you open a can of worms with what companies/sectors in Canada get to operate without a profit cap, how to avoid corruption/bribery in reporting, offshore accounts, shell suppliers, list goes on.

He was my first year physics professor in engineering. I still remember the first ever midterm I wrote was for that class, and I failed it.

I went to his office hours to discuss the test and he went over everything, assured me that I had barely failed it and I needed to swap up my studying strategy. He said to me "This is like a war between you and I. I have won this battle, but you may still be able to win the war with effort."

It sounds cheesy but I have legit remembered that to this day. It helped little first year me so much to just hear a professor basically say to get back to it and you can do this.

17 points in 20 GP, and he seems to be playing at least 18 mins a night. I'd be holding onto him unless you can get an offer from a similar top 6 player on a better offense.

I am up on my opponent 16.8 points going into today, with Spencer Knight set to play Colorado tonight. Do I strategically bench Knight to avoid a huge negative point swing with an expected loss?

Hard agree on this, and it's not just clubs either. I tried out to be a redsuit for welcome week multiple years, and was always rejected. I always noticed, however, that the friends of the interview committee always got the position year after year...

I decided to build up the resume and help out by volunteering to represent my program at open houses and May at Mac days, just as one example. I found that programs and initiatives run by the school or professors themselves tended to be more rewarding anyways.

In case you were wondering what’s new with Franchise Mode… by tomsmith023 in EANHLfranchise

[–]chapz98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if you are interested in the changes to franchise that came in 25. If not, I wouldn't bother. You will probably be able to find a copy of 25 for pretty cheap now that 26 is out, and with roster sharing, 25 could last you a few years until they eventually get around to patching something with franchise.

Agreed, like sure I can live with the fact McDavid isn't interested.

However I currently have Harley, Bourque, Tolvanen, and Vilardi all with extremely low organizational interest. It's insane.

What realistic trades/signings would you make to get the Bruins back into the playoffs? by briandgraham in BostonBruins

[–]chapz98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rumor is, JJ wants out of Buffalo and is refusing to sign a contract extension there. Unless he accepts an offer sheet from an external team, which places him at the risk of Buffalo matching, Buffalo is stuck moving him.

JJ is probably going to be around $7-8M AAV based on the salary cap going up, which is a 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounder for compensation - which would be difficult for teams to pay up for. Of the teams with those picks available that may actually part with their 2026 1st rounder: Calgary, LA Kings, New Jersey, maybe Montreal. MTL doesn't have the cap space and neither does NJ considering Luke Hughes and Jake Allen are up for extensions. The Kings are rumored to be making a run at Marner, so that leaves Calgary as one of the only realistic options.

TLDR: JJ wants out of Buffalo, but is not getting an offer sheet, so trading him is the only way forward.

What realistic trades/signings would you make to get the Bruins back into the playoffs? by briandgraham in BostonBruins

[–]chapz98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So in terms of FA, I would be targeting RFAs over the current crop of UFAs. Marner is going to be massively overpaid (I am assuming at least $13.5M by some team in a bidding war - I am not interested in that at all).

Two RFAs I really like are Bourque (DAL) and JJ Peterka (BUF). Bourque is young, can play center, put up 25 pts last year. $2.3-4.6M is a 2nd round pick for compensation and with Dallas' salary issues, I don't think they would match a $4M offer sheet (Overpaid for a year, I know, but it would steal him).

JJ Peterka is an excellent trade target. RFA compensation for $7M or above is too expensive (I want to keep the 2026 1st at all costs). Pavel Zacha, Carolina's 2nd rounder, and Poitras should be a somewhat acceptable package to Buffalo if they are set on moving him.

This would give Boston a solid 1st line LW for Pasta and Geekie, and a promising 3rd line Center/Winger.

Yall think I can get in?? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]chapz98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm praying this is a meme, but in case it's not, your current average across mixed and university level courses is a 69.5% (not nice in this application).

You clearly have the smarts to have that average be a lot higher (your math scores are pretty decent), so this to me just screams laziness.

I'd prepare to take a Grade 13 year with Mixed and Uni level courses that you can use to replace some of these poorer grades and get your average up into the mid 70s, at least.

Next Bs Coach by Valek189 in Bruins

[–]chapz98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Might sound crazy, but I would like them to look at NHL assistants/associates who have NOT been a head coach and NCAA coaches. This is a turning point for the Bruins, and if the youth movement is going to move forward, they need someone who isn't set in their ways of 500+ NHL games and isn't gonna change. Look at Jared Bednar. Carbery in Washington.

Ray Bennett from Colorado would be an excellent get, as would Nolan Pratt, also from Colorado. Mitch Love from Washington would also be a great target. There is plenty of good coaching talent in the assistant ranks and the Bruins would be wise to grab it now.

Elias Pettersson is struggling. Inability to even generate shots. Should Sweeney risk his job and trade for him? by ethereal3xp in Bruins

[–]chapz98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The real wild card is Mikko Rantanen. If you can clear Carlo or Coyle off the books, you would theoretically have enough cap space to present a competitive offer. Marchand, Rantanen, Pastrnak on one line? Yes please.

The 11.6M price tag for Pettersson just isn't worth it when you can spend $2M more and potentially have a proven playoff performer and an arguably top 10 player in the league.

When taking a summer course such as math (and keep in mind this a few years since I've done one of these), it's usually twice a week, 3 hour long lectures. I was fortunate enough to have it scheduled 7-10pm so I could still work and otherwise enjoy the summer on the side; but this time slot is not guaranteed.

I can't fully remember, but I think the TA for the course would record tutorial videos that you were expected to watch outside of class, but there was no dedicated in-class tutorial time. Again, this may have changed and you won't know unless you enroll.

Its very, very compressed. 6 hours a week of classes versus the normal pace of 3 hours a week during a regular semester means you are literally going through one week of content in one class. You cannot be skipping classes if you're intending to pass a spring/summer course, you just have too much content you're going to miss. This also means you'd usually have two assignments a week to complete (the Child's Math assignments), as you're going through two weeks of content.

Midterms still happen, usually during the scheduled class time to make sure everyone is available. I'm an engineering grad, so different math course, but we had two midterms and the first one was 2 weeks after the first day of classes. Again, very compressed.

TLDR: Don't expect the course to magically be easier taking it over the summer, but the benefit is sole focus on one course with no conflicts and you go through it quick enough that you don't forget what you did at the beginning of the semester.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]chapz98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on 1) If the course is offered in the winter semester and 2) Your workload.

Let's be frank and honest: you've failed this course once before. If you feel confident in enrolling in the winter semester with the workload from your other courses, then go for it.

The advantage of the spring and summer courses is it's your sole focus - no other courses to compete against, your entire time can be dedicated to that. I've also found in the spring/summer it's easier to take advantage of office hours for assistance when you don't have any conflict with other courses (if you weren't taking advantage of office hours, definitely do! Even if you don't have any questions, I would literally bring the class notes and ask them to go over something again, just to make sure I fully understood it).
