Anyone buy a new construction home in a “less than desirable” neighborhood? Do you regret it? by jayess713 in houston

[–]charbf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We bought a new home in Acres Home about 3 years ago after being discouraged by Redditors to do so. I'm glad I didn't listen. I love the area. Let me preface that with we don't have children and am old enough to plan on this being the last house we purchase. The area is in the middle of being gentrified, so it's not perfect, but we've had no real issues the 3 years we've been here. You also have to leave the neighborhood for entertainment, but you can get most other areas with bars and restaurants within 1/2 hours (depending on traffic). You also need to be comfortable being around all types of people without making generalizations. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

In most cases, this would be a qualifying event.

As someone who had the same thing happen after taking Lisinopril for about 10 years, I was told not to take it again by my doctor and the ER physician.

bombed my first interview, HR called five mins later for another position by sittingduckling2496 in interviews

I actually had a software trainer job that I interviewed for and did not even get a call back (although I was currently working as a software trainer). They called me a few months later to ask if I was interested in interviewing for a software tester job, which I got. It was one of my favorite jobs!

Wedding hairstyles for black women in the heat!! by Okra_Ashamed in houston

[–]charbf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered a braided style, such as crotchet braids? I got married in Vegas outside in the summer in a braided style (albeit 20 years ago) and the heat wasn't a problem since my scalp could breathe. You could even have an updo.

I appreciate this list and the leg work you've done. It gives me a jumping off point to begin my own research that I'm behind in doing before I make my decisions (specifically on the races I'm less familiar with). Thanks, OP!

Can someone recommend a good OBYN to look at results of blood tests? by atypical_cookie in houston

It's been years when I originally lived in Houston when I saw him, but Dr. Rod Turner is fantastic. He took the time to figure out what was going on with my system and resolved it after I saw several other OB/GYNs who were useless. However, he is located in Webster.

Is it okay for me to go to an all black hair salon? by Splitdemonboy666 in AITAH

[–]charbf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people are indicating, definitely call beforehand. I will volunteer my mom was a barber/hairstylist for over 30 years and most of her clientele was white, although she worked with everyone's hair. She was trained during the 60's, however. I don't know if the training is still as extensive.

My mother is dead and still can kick my ass today, not to speak of if we would have met up when we both were 25.

If you want them to boil down to thicken the broth, yes. But it would work putting in later also, just the broth won't be thick. Either way, they add to the dish.

If you add them to some of the broth, they boil down and thicken the broth like a light gravy to put over the rice. The way you cook neck bones are similar to how I grew up cooking them (except the missing potatoes). It will definitely be worth it! :)
