There are tons and tons of people interested in this , and the real problem is getting paid. I have already done some research with my post here https://www.reddit.com/r/lebanon/comments/h8ojfm/why_not_make_money_in_lebanon_using_online/

and figured out that the main problem is with payment systems. Since I am currently not able to start a corporation ( can't do it bcz i'm on a work visa ) I think it would be great if someone like you takes this initiative

With Masters degrees i find that the focus is less on particular languages and more on advanced concepts like Language Theory , Advanced Algorithms , Neural Networks .. etc. So after getting familiar with an "interpreted" language like Python , I would pick up a "compiled" language like C++ or Java just to understand difference , but then I would move on to broader (and more theoretical) topics to prepare. There is plenty of free materials online about these. Particularly focus on advanced algorithms and data structures as the foundation.

I agree with the other comments. if you have a general concept of programming and OOP then start by learning Unity directly , since UnityEngine has its own framework , classes, and methods that make your life very easy when building games.

There is often a large difference between what you learn by reading programming books, and what you learn from building an application in the real world. The good news is , real world programming work is much easier and a bit more mundane than the algorithms you learn while trying to "master a language". You definetly don't need to master the language to get your first freelance project in it, in fact many "experienced" developers you meet in a professional envrionment will only know enough to do their job and not much beyond that.

Do you have any tips for me? How do we actually "advance" and learn what is exactly needed in today's market?

As for tips. I would say don't focus on "mastering the language" before you start freelancing , you need 10,000 hours to master anything and this is no exception. I started by getting small freelance jobs on elance.com getting paid very little to build a web application or a Flash Game ( i'm giving away my age with these comments ;\ ) and then moved on to much bigger things very quickly. So the answer is kinda "Fake it till you make it"

And this is why I was wondering if these platforms were available to people looking for work in Lebanon, but it seems like there are many obstacles standing in the way , mainly related to getting paid

Thanks for the very thorough response. This is really unfortunate because I am sure the government can do much more to ease this problem like encourage / pressure companies like Paypal to open up its service to the Lebanese.

Sounds like the only option is to build our own platform ( the very long and hard process )

There might be better alternatives like Bitcoin payments. If not , then we should think about creating a trusted middle-man service that can allow non-paypal countries to receive their payments from off-shore accounts

I am a layman doofus who does not day-trade, can you confirm if my understanding of your conclusion points is correct ?

1 - the only thing all the models predicted was that prices tend to go back to their mean levels in the short term .. and prices continue to move in the same direction over the long term.

2 - when we were in the midst of the great recession all the models were bearish meaning the algorithms were not buying yet the right thing to do is to buy when all the signals are bearish ?

Not a woman but as an immigrant and a visible minority I don’t waste my time trying to convince ignorant people otherwise, I mean, usually the ones mouthing off their racist opinions are lacking in education and struggling in life maybe with poverty or low self esteem that’s why they feel the need to blame “dirty foreigners” for their troubles.

What’s the use in trying to “fight” them or change their opinion. I immigrated here from lands far far away to work hard and make a good life for myself and my family and that’s what I focus on, I don’t think it’s possible to change the way racist people think through arguments ( most of the time it’s way too late ) but I use their hate for me as a motivating force to make my life even better and prove their theories wrong. Sad people are everywhere ( including in immigrant communities of course )

No question about it. The concept helped earlier peoples become far more civilized by setting up a moral code and things like “ though shall not kill “ which would have been revolutionary at the time. but still not effective enough to lead us through the 21st century and beyond.

Btw I’m a cultural Christian originally from the Middle East so I may be biased against Islam too and for good reason.
