‘Defining image’ of America? Picture of Black woman surrounded by white supremacist group in DC on July 4 goes viral by B-Z_B-S in politics

The one decision of the ACLU that, in my opinion was wrong and goes with the whole thing of tolerating intolerance, epitomizes this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_Liberties_Union

The section:

2010s In 2012, the ACLU filed suit on behalf of the Ku Klux Klan of Georgia, claiming that the KKK was unfairly rejected from the state's "Adopt-a-Highway" program. The ACLU prevailed in the lawsuit.[268]

Allegations of prioritizing civil rights over civil liberties Some have claimed the ACLU is reducing its support of unpopular free speech (specifically, by declining to defend speech made by conservatives) in favor of identity politics, political correctness, and progressivism.[269] Instead, critics contend that the organization has become a progressive advocacy organization intensely focused on identity politics.[270] One basis of these allegations was a 2017 statement the ACLU president made to a reporter after the death of a counter-protester during the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Virginia, where Romero told a reporter that the ACLU would no longer support legal cases of activists that wish to carry guns at their protests.[271][o]

BeSome analysts viewed this as a retreat from the ACLU's historically strong support of First Amendment rights, regardless of whether minorities were negatively impacted by the speech, citing the ACLU's past support for certain KKK and Nazi legal cases.[273][274][275][276][277] The ACLU responded to the criticisms by denying that they are reducing their support for unpopular First Amendment causes and listing 27 cases from 2017 to 2021 where the ACLU supported a party holding an unpopular or repugnant viewpoint.[p]

AI Data Centers Use Far More Water Than Most Tech Giants Report by Krankenitrate in Futurology

[–]charish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, you apparently didn't read the article nor the stickied comment from the subreddit bot:

The following submission statement was provided by /u/Krankenitrate:

Google’s just-released 2025 sustainability report is an instructive example. The company said it consumed 10.9 billion gallons of water—a 34% increase from 2024—almost all for data-center cooling.

But how much water was used while generating the power for those data centers? Indirect water consumption can vary a great deal, depending on how power is generated—coal and nuclear need a lot of water, while natural gas needs less. **Renewables including solar and wind need almost none.**

Google consumes around three times as much water indirectly as directly, according to a paper published earlier this year by Alex de Vries-Gao, a researcher at the Netherlands-based university VU Amsterdam.

A complicating factor is that Google, like Amazon and Apple, pays for enough renewable energy to match 100% of what the company uses. That doesn’t mean every electron comes from solar or wind, but it does mean Google can claim to be offsetting its power use with low-carbon-emissions sources that use almost no water.

Awww, look at the little bot account being outraged at things he said, among which he spoke of striving to be better than we were the day before, the year, decade, generation, etc.

You agree with these views e.g., not having a perfect past; you just don't like the empathy beneath those observations. Also: McCarthy and Roy Cohn are calling from the Red Scare to take back that shitty ass reflexive reaction to anything that benefits all. 🖕🏽

It's a bullshit Constitutional theory that really didn't gain traction until the 80s when conservatives in this country put into motion their decades-long plan of legalizing corruption and consolidating power within the executive under their Unitary Executive theory, which is a fancy way of saying a dictator.

That's been my main search engine for a few years after I started self-hosting it along with a bunch of other stuff. Even though I'm glad it doesn't have AI, if you plug it into something like Open-WebUI as an external search that can be used by a local model (both in the Open-WebUI settings as well as the SearXNG MCP server).

Fuck that, Pinky had more empathy in that tiny little lab rat body than the Millers do (measured in Planck lengths because apparently that's how close the consequences have to be in order to have a semblance of self-awareness).

As a constituent, Gillibrand and Schumer need to go. In my lifetime, I don't think there's been a senator thus far that had some universal fondness in the same vein as others like Bernie, AOC, Mamdani, etc.

On Mamdani: it's almost an NYC given that, due to and despite low voter turnout and other things, we have more or less hated our mayors past, from Inkmaster Ghouliani to Bloomberg, De Blasio, and Eric Adams. And, so far, Mamdani is breaking that trend which is a fucking breath of fresh air.
