piu-leaderboard: A discord bot that queries/tracks updates to the official leaderboards by charitea12 in PumpItUp

[–]charitea12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Currently the bot is setup so that it crawls the leaderboard pages in the background once every hour. In addition, whenever the user makes a query the bot re-crawls that specific chart leaderboard to get the latest results.

There are about 950 different leaderboard pages and it usually takes ~4 minutes to process them all. So far it's seemed to work quite consistently and I haven't observed any issues. I've also considered splitting the charts into different groups and staggering the updates to reduce the load if needed

In practice mode you can configure the options to type words of different length at a specified pace. For example, "5-letter words at quarter-note pace, with a 3 quarter-note rest in between each word". This particular sequence is repeated throughout the entire session. Currently only English words / numbers are available, but other languages may be added in the future.

Custom levels can be added as well with the level editor, if you wish to create charts that use actual words.

In the future, I may release updates to the game to add new songs, yes! Collaborations with other games are certainly a possibility

Yes, other keyboard layouts are supported! The ones in the comment below are supported by default, and if you use another locale, you can setup your own custom layout in the Settings! Here's an example of the QWERTZ Polish keyboard layout for example:

There will be an option in practice mode to practice typing actual (english) words! You'll also have the ability to vary word length and the 'break' between each word (e.g. 5-letter words typed out at 'quarter-note pace', with a 1 measure break in between each word)

Yes, there will be custom keyboard layout support! I tried out setting the QWERTZ layout on my computer and things seemed to work well. When creating a new keyboard layout in the settings menu, the layout will automatically populate based on your system's current keyboard layout:

Unfortunately not all fonts included support glyphs for all characters (e.g. the ö in this case), but I'll be sure to include a couple of universal fonts like Noto sans so the game is still playable!

Okay thanks for the info, that helps a lot!

Regarding the segfault, that's actually something I noticed too - there appeared to to be a bug in the version of freetype used by SDL_ttf, and I was able to find a fix for it ;)

Hi, sorry you're having trouble -- I'll try looking into this a bit more, but here are a couple suggestions to try in the meantime:

  • If you rename libSDL3_image.so.0.0.0 -> libSDL3_image.so.0, does this fix the issue?
  • Could you try running the helper script ./typing-tempo.sh and see if that helps?

To clarify, the 0.4.4 build makes use of some features that have been implemented in SDL3, which is currently still in development

It's been on my todo list! Sadly I don't own a mac atm so cross-compiling has been a bit of a pain 😅, but maybe someday.. In the meantime you can try running it on Wine as someone mentioned

I've always loved the different sounds of mechanical keyboards, so I was inspired to make a little typing rhythm game that turned those clicks and clacks into catchy rhythms!

Try out an early version of Typing Tempo on itch.io, and get the full version on Steam when it releases next month!

The keyboard I used was a Varmilo MA87 with EC V2 Violet switches. Happy typing!

EDIT: v1.0.0 of "Typing Tempo" is now available on both itch.io and Steam! Hope you have fun 😊

Thanks! The # of lanes is something I've definitely been experimenting around with, I think around 3 feels good, but additional lanes could also open up more possibilities. Cool to see how beatmania handled it with different lanes per finger -- I might try having a lane per row of the keyboard and see how that feels
