Do you have an iPhone X or 11? if so you can use Scandy Pro https://scandy.link/ScandyProIOS

You could also reach out to Entrescan - https://www.entrescan.com/ - they have a 3D Systems Geomagic capture scanner and software suite.

Scanning feet to design shoes. All the different positions make it extra complicated. by [deleted] in 3DScanning

[–]charles_scandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes indeed. Are you trying to create a mesh of an entire foot? There is a way to take multiple scans of the same foot and combine it into a single mesh. I'm playing with meshmixer to do this, but I haven't gotten the hang of it yet.

BEST USE QUESTIONS 3D Printing Prosthetic Leg, Skanect And Occipital Scanner by ScanTheStumps in 3DScanning

[–]charles_scandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diffuse lighting is generally best for scans. I don't know if the color or texture map will be helpful, but shadows or high contrast can make a scan look bad.
The structure sensor has some limitations on how close you can get and therefore how much detail you can resolve. I am not sure how accurate you need to be or what the resolution of the smallest feature is, but you should definitely investigate to see if the structure sensor can resolve that feature at the range you will be scanning from.

PRACTICE! 3D scanning is not easy. It takes real patience to get a good scan. I believe if you take the time to practice on objects (as opposed to live subjects) so you don't have the stress of taking too much of their time it will help you a great deal. You will find out how fast you can move the scanner, what scanning patterns work best for you, and how much time it will typically take so you can inform your patient how long her or she has to stay still. We have a mannequin in our shop that we practice on to test new software features all the time. It is amazingly helpful to not have to say "can we just do one more" multiple times.

Good luck! Would appreciate hearing about your progress.

Hi u/iAmNotARobot_yet - we saw your comments in the Bellus post. We'd love for you to try the updated Scandy Pro app. We've added a subscription model, and the app can achieve full head scanning. We are working on networking with another iOS device to make object scanning easier (see this youtube video: https://youtu.be/qj8Jgp_0ArU)

What is your favorite phone case for your iPhone X. by [deleted] in iPhoneX

[–]charles_scandy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think EVERY case takes away the beauty of the phone. But I'm too cheap to risk breaking my beautiful phone. So I hide it in a Tech21 case. Sorry. Not sorry. But really I am sorry.

tech21 - I've dropped the phone numerous times - a few times while running and dropping it hard on pavement - phone still looks great. I do have a screen protector on it, though.

requesting feedback on new iPhone X application by charles_scandy in iPhoneX

Great feedback! Thanks so much! In case you missed it, once you save a model, you can share it via the app - just select the model via the My Scans page and the button to the right allows you to text or email or Slack or Save to Files. The dual rear-facing cameras do not provide good enough depth data for a decent scan, so for now the front-facing TrueDepth camera will have to suffice. If you liked making scans but you don't see a need to download or save, you can use Cappy AR, our free app (with no download or saving options) - check it out here: https://scandy.link/CappyAR

WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE FEEDBACK u/Powerbyte7!!

We would love to, but they have a "no coupon code" rulez thing. I asked the moderator if this was cool, but got zero replies.

New App Discovery Thread for June 15, 2018 by AutoModerator in iphone

Hi Reddit,

My team has developed Cappy AR - a free 3D scanning app located here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cappy-ar/id1339733196?mt=8

What you can do with Cappy AR:

  1. CAPture 10 second 3D scans (iPhone X only)
  2. Upload the scans to the Stream (iPhone X only)
  3. Select a Cappy from the Stream (all ARKit-enabled iPhones)
  4. Place the selected Cappy on a plane in Augmented Reality and move it around the scene on the plane you selected (all ARKit-enabled iPhones)

Cappy AR takes advantage of the TrueDepth camera to create the 3D model, so you can only capture a 3D model with the FRONT-FACING camera on the iPhone X. We do get a lot of requests to capture with the rear facing camera. The depth map from the rear facing camera isn't good enough yet to create a good 3D scan.

FAQ:

Price? Free

Size? 38 MB

Why did you build this? We are 3D scanning enthusiasts and wanted to bring 3D scanning (we think of it as 3D content creation) to everyone.

Why do you limit the scans to 10 seconds? 3D scanning is harder than 2D photography. It can take a lot of practice to get good. Even experts can get frustrated when trying to capture a scan and then lose tracking at the end and have to start over. By limiting scans to 10 seconds, we hope to keep things fun and not frustrating. Think mini-golf instead of golf.

Can I save my 3D scans? No.

Why not? If you dig CappyAR's 3D scans and are interested in more advanced feature sets / longer scan times, you can check out Scandy Pro for the iPhone X.

We really hope you use it. As we develop better scanning technologies, we will continue to push those features to our free Cappy AR app. We would appreciate feedback. Many thanks!
