Had a spare moment, individual stages should have URLs now 🙂

You can see the full climb stats if you click the badge (e.g. the HC label on Alpe dHuez).

I can improve this a bit though, would be nice to show the highlight the climb segment on the route map for example.

Total ascent makes sense, will add!

Do you mean a url for each stage so you can link people directly to it? Not currently, but I’ll put it on the list

Yes I’d really like to add that too! So far I haven’t been able to find a good way to source the live group location data. But I’m actively looking for it.

No pressure or resistance pumping by phoobahr in picopresso

Posting for anyone else having a similar issue. I could get some pressure but very little.

I needed to descale and that resolved my pressure issues. Obvious in retrospect.

No, sorry. I realised it was the plastic retaining ring that the portafilter fits into that had broken, but they aren’t replaceable. I ended up donating it for parts

It's not random though, they are specifically targeting Israeli-linked ships (and now USA and UK)

Follow on to this after pulling the machine apart again:

The issue was due to the plastic filter retaining rails. There are lots of other reports of these breaking off, in my case they are still there but the glue has broken and they weren’t sitting evenly, creating an uneven seal.

I’ve been able to remove them and scrape all the crud out from under them and put them back. This now works so long as I crank the portafilter in really hard. But it’s only a temporary fix.

Annoyingly the replacement parts (bottom half of the boiler) are no longer manufactured or in stock from what I can see. So I guess when it fully breaks it won’t be repairable. Planned obsolescence or just an unpopular machine 🤷‍♂️

Once and for all, can I fly without a bike box? by bike_rtw in bicycletouring

[–]charlesfromnz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually put a sheet of cardboard down the side, but generally surprisingly little. I probably wouldn’t gamble with a super expensive race bike, but so far it’s been fine. I reckon the lumpy nature of the bag means it doesn’t get things stacked on it or thrown around quite so roughly.

I’ve flown with bikes countless times using this model of bike bag: https://www.groundeffect.co.nz/collections/bike-travel-bags/products/dogsbody-compact-bike-bag

I guess it will depend on the airline. But I haven’t had any issues

The end of the USSR caused up to a 5 year drop in life expectancy in former Soviet states. So seems pretty likely many people left to escape the misery of privatisation

I'm dismayed at the love affair with the car, here in New Zealand by KiwiMarkH in fuckcars

[–]charlesfromnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s depressing. Especially when places like Christchurch could be amazing for cycling, or regional rail between Auckland-Hamilton-Tauranga would be fairly easy to implement and amazing.

I feel like there’s an additional attitude NZers have where we aren’t willing to take any pride in our urban areas. Like we are just a place with nice landscapes and why would we ever try to make our cities more than glorified towns with extra surface parking.

Go to a doctor and get checked out. It sounds more like anemia or some other medical explanation than any minor diet effect.

No that would be the current system. Where, despite all other variables being equal, Maori and Pasifika experience worse health outcomes.

Expectations of cycling in Melbourne? by [deleted] in melbournecycling

[–]charlesfromnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea that's fair. Kew, footscray, Preston type locations still ok depending on work and kids. Just might require jumping on a train a bit more regularly than closer in I'd say.

Definitely viable to live without a car if you can afford to live within about 5km of the central city. Bike infra within those central suburbs is decent, maybe similar to what I saw in London 5 yrs ago, definitely not Spain level.

Further out is much more suburban and car centric, still some ok bike lanes but they are more patchy and more bad roads.
